The Sunday Bottom 5
The very worst of the week that was.

  1. President TrumpPresident Trump becomes first US president to visit North Korea with Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “pretty sure” third-rate president courting third-rate dictator who keeps own citizens in prison camps shows America has become third-rate country.
  2. The New AmericaNearly two dozen sexual assault claims later, Americans have no longer seem to care their president – who’s admitted to grabbing women by the well, you know – is a sexual predator, as latest rape accusations against president generally result in giant, national shrug…Like mass shootings, Americans have come to terms with this.
  3. Democratic Presidential FieldAs first round of candidate debates enters sixth week, – with NYC PS 134 janitor Enrique Portillo standing center stage for debate #972 – party better hope someone breaks thru and unites Democrats pretty soon or we’re likely to be forced to muddle four more years of President Tweeter drawing attention to himself.
  4. Major League Baseball in LondonInstead of sending over equivalent of Jacksonville Jaguars, MLB sends over iconic Red Sox, Yankees, who get late touchdown to win opener 17-13…Queen Elizabeth II reportedly pleased, declining to revoke Treaty of Ghent as she had been after watching Jaguars annual fiascos.
  5. Major League Baseball in Tampa Bay With west coast Florida baseball fans not turning out in droves to see pretty good team, owners take first step towards fleeing by announcing plans to play part of season in Montreal…Though your little boy knows this plan completely whack, opening salvos in relocation game must be fired.

The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow’s MOD key isn’t working properly, while the yard at The Shire is looking sharp. Today’s Diary.

The MOD key card didn’t open Door 6…I set the tray down, went to test it on Door 4 with negative results, so I want back and got the tray, walked around the back of the restaurant and thru the lobby doors and returned the tray to the restaurant…Then I got Gloria’s master housekeeping key, which gets you into everywhere but Fort Knox, to let me back into the east wing to resume delivering folios.

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life.

In 1921 – Former President of the United States William Howard Taft is appointed Chief Justice of the United States by President Warren G Harding. Taft would be confirmed by the United States Senate later that day. The Supreme Court at the time met in the US Capitol building and Taft was instrumental in getting his court its own building, though he died five years before it opened. Taft remains the only person to serve as both president and chief justice.

In 1984 – The Los Angeles Express defeat the Michigan Panthers 27-21 in three overtimes in the first round of the United States Football League playoffs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The game ended three minutes and 33 seconds into the third overtime on a 24-yard touchdown run by Mel Gray and at 93 minutes, 33 seconds, it remains the longest game in the history of American professional football.

In 1973 – George Harrison is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 with Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth). The song would spend one week at the top and was Harrison’s second of three #1s as a solo act and, counting his years with the Beatles, his 22nd appearance at the top spot. At #2 that week was Paul McCartney’s My Love, marking the only time in Hot 100 history two former Beatles have held the top two spots in the survey.
