The Diary of a Nobody/May 19

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Sunday, May 19
At the hotel, Brandon agreed about making more scrap paper, seeing my point that we need a stack more than inch high because you never know when you might have a flurry of several hundred notes to take at once, and you want to be prepared and I was able to add a few sheets, not too many, to our stack in the back office.

Based on my obvious skill trimming paper, Brandon also commissioned me to make some smaller slips for our money drops…Some places have professional cash envelopes, pre-printed with columns for the assorted denominations we have here in America, but we can’t be bothered with that here, Candace preferring us to make our drops in those small, clear, sealable plastic bags into which we insert a slip that has the date, time, amount and our name…She’s the one who verifies our drops and has to deal with these on a daily basis, so whatever works for her, and I made enough for the next couple of weeks…I didn’t make too many, tho, because I’m still sorting out my technique.

As I sometimes like to do while sorting registrations cards for our days arrivals, I scoped out an address of a guest who lives in a foreign country…Recall the last time I did this the guy lived in some rathole in Mexico City…This family was coming from Switzerland, northern part, about 20 miles south of the German border, near some lake, and lived in an apartment building that had 70s suburbs written all over it…It was a pretty nice area.

Our room remodels are making good progress…Or appear to be making good progress…We established during the last remodel that I am lousy at reckoning construction progress…But it looks like it’s coming along nicely…Most bathrooms have tubs/showers installed and most of the rooms I checked also had closets installed and furniture is being delivered almost daily…The target date for reopening is June 6.

Had a strong workout today…Between set squats are up to 20 now, and I upped the weight on tricep exercises, tho that is hardly a bulletin because pound for pound triceps are probably my strongest body part…I will probably up the weight on bicep exercises, too, next time…Bench press tho, remains the same, the weight still what my warm-up set used to be back in my heyday…My next workout is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon/evening, depending on how the Tuesday Sleep Session (TSS) goes.

The only downside is I was out of my post-workout shake powder…Fortunately, I had enough power bars on hand to make up for it, and I had a burger patty defrosted, too…While it was cooking I completely lost my mind and combined some ketchup, mayo and Worcestershire sauce to make a sauce to accent the patty’s flavor….It tasted good but boy, it looked disgusting…The color was sort of a light brownish deal and something in the Worcestershire sauce made everything clump up so it looked, frankly, like puke…In fact, looked so bad the cat wouldn’t get within five feet up, preferring to lap up some nearby dish soap that was lying on the counter.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 0900 Sunday until 1530 Sunday…6.5 hours, not what I was hoping for at all, frankly…I was hoping to sleep until 1800 or so, but no dice…On the other hand, there was no alarm and I felt rested and I got a good workout in, so there is no reason to complain, except for my immense, natural propensity for whining.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th century British novel of the same name.
