In 1774 – The Quartering Act of 1774 takes effect in the American colonies, authorizing the government to quarter troops in unoccupied buildings if suitable quarters weren’t otherwise available. It was the fourth of five acts History refers to as the Intolerable Acts passed by Parliament after the Boston Tea Party in December 1773. The 3rd Amendment to the Constitution was a direct result of this and the Quartering Act of 1765.
In 1996 – Annika Sorenstam of Sweden wins the US Women’s Open by six strokes over Kris Tschetter in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Sorenstam shot a final round 66 to earn her second of three US Open titles and her second of ten major wins and remains the highest finish in a major for Tschetter. Sorenstam became the sixth of seven women to win consecutive US Opens.
In 2013 – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton are at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the third of five consecutive weeks with Can’t Hold Us. The song went to #1 in three other countries, including Poland, peaked at #3 in Great Britain, was in its fifth of seven consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart, was Billboard’s 5th-biggest pop song of the year, and its 3rd-biggest soul song. It was the first of two #1 s for Macklamore & Ryan Lewis and remains the only Hot 100 appearance for Dalton, making him one of 19 acts whose only chart single went to #1.
