The Diary of a Nobody/October 8

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

A Night Off
Forms were strong this morning in the gym which – because we were there at zero-dark-thirty – we had all to ourselves…We got the three sets in we wanted, plus weights, too…Weights were light, nowhere near ten-rep failure, but that’s OK…As noted, we’ve exchanged intensity for consistency and final sets were 15 reps pretty close to failure, but not exactly.

We are still doing one set per body part and because we are not doing max weights, they don’t take as long because we take less time in between sets…Max weights, for us at least, demanded three minutes between sets, but when you’re not doing max weights you can take less time between sets…Heck, now there is not time between the first two sets, tho we do take a minute or two between the penultimate and final sets.

The rest of our nite off was leisurely…Project work wasn’t done until 0500 and then Bandit and I retired to the chair for reading duty and after an hour or so we were starting to doze off…Now, regular readers of this crap know this is primo go-to- bed time, but the fly in the ointment was we had a 0900 phone call for some project work publicity coming up…We weren’t particularly thrilled with this, but not everybody keeps our odd hours, and this was the less noxious time we could rustle up.

Order Up
So we went to breakfast at our small town’s restaurant, only our second visit there since they reopened…We were in the mood for some hotcakes, and while they were good enuff, they weren’t great…Ol’ Sparrow, frankly, could’ve done as well at home…Plus, they were out of whipped butter, leaving us with those small, frozen butter packs, which were created by Satan on the seventh day while He rested…Still tho, we got two sunny-side up, plus bacon and sausage, so there is no reason to complain too loudly.

Maritza, the owner, looked exhausted, and when we noted she said the joint hadn’t closed until 0130 this morning and she was the only one available to open this morning and she wasn’t entirely sure she wouldn’t have to go the distance tonite, either, because she is having the same problems hiring people everyone else is…She said despite the fact we were the first customer, business has been pretty good, especially at nite, when the bar does pretty good business, because this is the only place in our small town to do your drinking in…Unless you just want beer, then you can go to the pizza joint.

From The Financial Desk
After that, we went to the Town Hall to pay the utility bill…For some reason, we had gotten into our minds that we were so far past due we were about to get one of those notices on our door…This was far from the case…We presented ourselves at the desk and the gal said no, we were more or less up-to-date, that the new bill was due on the 10th, but other than that, we were in no danger of having our services shut down, never a given with yours truly anymore because the Get A Bill, Pay A Bill program – which longtime readers of this crap may or may not remember – was abandoned years ago.

What we should do, of course, is get autopay…We have it for a variety of things, but got it for the small town utility payment because for years we enjoyed paying it by check, the only check we regularly wrote…That thrill faded a long time ago, tho, and we’ve been paying by debit card the past couple of years…This involves a small service fee which we didn’t have to pay with a check and wont with autopay…And we are not so much on the financial edge that we won’t always have money in the bank, so we should really sign up for autopay.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log
1130 Wednesday until 1830 Wednesday…7.0 hours for the day and 24.0 hours for the week.

Our phone call was over by 0930 and you might be thinking yours truly went strait to sleep, we didn’t…The call gave us a second wind…Plus we woke too late to do anything but shoulder therapy and neck work at the gym…We didn’t even have time for one set of forms.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
