The Daily Dose/April 5, 2026

The Sunday Bottom 5
A ranking of some things.

1. War With Iran – Still illegal – it was not declared by Congress – and still immoral – we bombed school girls for Pete’s sake – it remains as useless a loss of life as mankind has produced…History will record every death on both sides a slaughter.

2. Epstein Files – Still there, though war with Iran is doing a tidy job of pushing it to the back burner…For now…President Trump is still mentioned tens of thousands of times, and he has yet to publicly acknowledge that he has not molested children, though he has acknowledged that he grabs women by the pussy.

3. USA! USA! The 3-hole staple…Seven decades into TV and fast food being focal points of American life, we are well-fed and well-entertained and not too much interested in fussin’ over things – like ignorance and war – that do not directly threaten it…Yet…It will soon enough, though, because ignorance is the standard in America now and ignorance can only flourish for so long before taking a permanent toll.

4. Artemis II Voyage going pretty well so far, no small feat for a country that hadn’t sent anyone past low Earth orbit in over half a century…Pesky problem toilet fixed by token woman on crew, after token Black, token Canadian, and token white were unable to effect repair.

5. ABS Automated ball/strike calling system making big league debut this season after a few years on the farm, though its strike zone – based on a player’s height and if ball crosses center of home plate – is different from the strike zone mentioned in rulebook…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “strongly suspect” everyone will adapt to the ABS strike zone soon enough, with challenges ultimately being no more newsworthy than an infield fly.

Today At The Site
Writing worth reading. Usually.

It is Read Free Sunday (RFS) at The Diary of a Nobody.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow is back at the hotel. Today’s Diary.

It was big news in triplicate tonite at the hotel: the #1 and #4 keys are back in the key safe, the Easter decorations are up, and Romeo’s been fired…I am not making any of those things up…

In 1998 – The longest suspension bridge in the world opens in Japan. The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is 6,532 feet long and connects the cities of Kobe and Iwaya in south-central Japan. Construction began in 1988, and today the toll is roughly equivalent to $14. It was surpassed as the world’s longest suspension bridge in 2022 by a bridge in Turkey 6,637 feet long that connects the European and Asian portions of the country.

In 2010 – The Duke Blue Devils win the NCAA men’s basketball championship with a 61-59 victory over the Butler Bulldogs in Indianapolis. It was the fourth of five national championships for the Blue Devils and was the first of two consecutive national runner-up finishes for Butler. It remains the last of six meetings in the national championship game between two private schools and was the first since Villanova defeated Georgetown in 1985.

In 1980 – The Brothers Johnson are at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Hot Soul Singles chart – for the first of two consecutive weeks with Stomp! It was the fourth and final Top 10 soul hit for the group and their third and final #1. The song also went #1 pop in New Zealand, #6 pop in Great Britain, peaked at #7 on the Hot 100, and was Billboard’s 15th-biggest soul song of the year. The song was produced by Quincy Jones.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

You must live your life for something more important than your life alone. One who has never lost himself in a cause bigger than himself has missed one of life’s mountaintop experiences.
