The Diary of a Nobody/August 19

It’s Sparrow…An average man passing an average life.

Sparrow’s Night Off
Ol’ Sparrow’s proverbial Nite Off Cup (DOC) runneth over ebcause for the third consecutive week we had one, and it went very well…Like other nite’s off, we got to the gym and got our rest, had a couple-three snorts, and there were the usual grandiose plans for actually accomplishing things that, as per Standard Sparrow Policy (SSP) didn’t materialize.

The Tuesday nite workout (Wednesday for Diary purposes) was strong…We had unlimited time and, for once, used it efficiently…We didn’t dawdle and why we didn’t may never be known…Weights were good, three 10-minute sets of deep breathing went well, and so did neck work…We have some zero clue how long the neck work session lasted, tho, because we forgot to set the timer at the start, and after a while we started wondering why the hell the timer hadn’t gone off yet, but we had no idea when we started…Offhand, we’re thinking 20 minutes, but History will never know for sure.

We had some bonus project work we wanted to do, but after the daily stuff was done, we were tired of screen time and reported to the chair for reading duty…With a toddy…We started off with a whiskey sour, and we were planning on becoming good friends with them tonite, when Mr Flavored Brandy started demanding attention, attention we delivered…Then, in the interest of diversification, we wrapped the festivities up with a shot of quality scotch (QS)…Originally, QS was going to get the nite off…Then both the cheap bourbon we use for whiskey sours and the flavored brandy pointed out they were on the job tonite and why should QS get a nite off???…Not too bad a point, tho we noted we can’t drink everything every nite off…This is Nite Off Snorts (NOS) not the Booze Special Olympics (BSO…They saw the point to this, and promised to pipe down.

Then we went to bed even tho we weren’t tired and listened to some things while Bandit reported for cuddles…Then we went back to the chair for more reading; finished our book, then wrote down the passages we wanted to remember in our quotebook…Then we went to bed for real, taking a shot of Zzz-Sleep because we sleep pretty long when it’s combined with booze.

After a nice long rest (see Sleep Log below), we were overdue for the Wednesday nite gym session, so there was only time for deep breathing…We were feeling pretty frisky and would not’ve minded lifting for a second consecutive nite, but we were so late we didn’t even have time for neck work, which means we were really pressed for time, because neck work, of course, involves lying on your back and we can generally always find time for that.

Sparrow For Congress…Vote Early, Vote Often
It’s been a pretty slow month on the campaign trail, but that’s normal for August, and we’ve learned from experience that things will pick up again after Labor Day…We have some ideas, and we’ll be ready, because we think our district is ready for something new.

We think this because we are the ultimate perpetual optimist, and have been forever…Our district has long been Democratic and is considered a safe seat for the incumbent, who’s been in office for eight years, elected after his predecessor was elected governor.

But…

Over half the district is registered independent, which means over half the voters, by definition, aren’t happy with either major party…The incumbent – who appears to be a good and decent man – only talks about issues that specifically affect the district…Yay and Boo…Yay for paying attention to your constituents…Boo for ignoring the national issues that are destroying our country, like ignorance and perpetual war…Plus, both the state university and the state college are in the district, and the state university town gave Sparrow for US Senate decent support in 2014.

We have some ideas, too, and the right message at the right time could make some noise, because nobody is happy with our country right now.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log:
0700 Wednesday until 1700 Wednesday…10.0 hours for the day and 32.5 hours for the week.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
