Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1990 – East and West Germany reunite and become the Federal Republic of Germany when East Germany ceases to exist. Germany officially became separate countries in 1949, four years after the Soviet Union occupied East Germany after World War II. East and West Berlin also merged into one city, and once again became Germany’s capital in 1999, after a nine-year transition.

In 1951 – The New York Giants win the National League pennant, defeating the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-4 in the third game of their playoff series. Bobby Thomson’s 3-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning at the Polo Grounds – known to History as the Shot Heard ‘Round the World” – gave the Giants the win. The Giants would lose the World Series to the New York Yankees in six games.

Today – Ella Langley is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a record 24th non-consecutive week with Choosin’ Texas. The mark broke the record of 22 weeks by Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You, which set the mark in six separate chart runs, itself an all-time Hot 100 record. The song is also in its 42nd non-consecutive week at #1 on Billboard’s country chart, is now the 3rd-biggest country song ever, and the biggest ever by a female solo act. It is her first #1 song on either chart.
