Two, he brought it with cream in it, and a couple of sugar substitutes on the side…Cream???…Jesus H, we rode smoke boats in the Navy, we take our coffee like we take our women: strong and black…Still tho, it was accepted without throwing it back at him and we settled in to see what was on his mind.

History’s long march.
In 1908 – The largest recorded impact event occurs over a largely uninhabited portion of eastern Siberia when a meteor air burst destroys 80 million trees over 830 square miles. It is thought the meteor was between 50 and 60 feet wide and traveling at a speed of 60,000 mph. Though classified as an impact event, there is not an impact crater and it is believed whatever object caused the explosion disintegrated at an altitude of between three and six miles. History refers to the event as the Tunguska Event, after a nearby river.
In 1897 – R.F. Doherty of England wins the Wimbledon title defeating fellow Englishman Harold Mahony 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the championship match. It was the first of four Wimbledon titles for Doherty, who also won the US Open in 1902 and 1903 and he also teamed with his brother Laurence to win the doubles title. Doherty remains one of the most decorated tennis players ever, having also won Olympic doubles titles in 1900 and 1908, the mixed doubles title in 1900, and he was part of four consecutive British Davis Cup-winning teams from 1903-06.
In 1973 – The Spinners are at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Hot Soul Singles chart – for the fourth and final consecutive week with One of a Kind (Love Affair). It was the sixth of 18 Top 10 soul songs for the group and was their third of six soul #1s. The song also went #16 pop in Canada and peaked at #11 on the Hot 100. Instruments on the record were played by MFSB, a Philadelphia studio group that would hit #1 on the Hot 100 and soul chart the following year with TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia.)

Chris highlighted the amounts on his Cash Drawer Spreadsheet (CDSS) again…Recall two nights ago he highlighted everything – including his initials – and last night he highlighted squat – or didn’t highlight squat, this still confuses us – and tonite he was back to his usual, only highlighting the amounts…Thank Providence this ends the week’s CDSS instability…Mark will be back next week and I know you will be as glad to see Mark back as we will be…I checked, and next week’s schedule – almost incredibly – is already up, and Mark is on it.

History’s long march.
In 1995 – The Sampoong department store in Seoul collapses, killing 502 people and injuring over 900. Cracks had begun appearing in ceilings in April and despite cracks appearing and increasing in size during the day, and the fifth floor beginning to sink, the building was not evacuated and the collapse started about 5:52 pm. An investigation showed substandard materials and construction techniques had been used and the building’s owner Lee Joon was later convicted of criminal negligence and died shortly after being released from prison after serving seven-and-a-half years of a ten-year term.
In 1958 – Brazil wins the World Cup, defeating Sweden 5-2 in Solna, Sweden. It was the first of five World Cup titles for Brazil and remains Sweden’s only appearance in the championship game. Pele scored two goals for Brazil, the first of a then-record twelve World Cup goals in four World Cups, a mark later broken by Gerd Muller (14) of West Germany and now held by Miroslav Klose of Germany (16). Sweden remains the only host country to lose a World Cup final.
In 1963 – Kyu Sakamoto is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the third and final consecutive week with Sukiyaki. It was the first of two chart singles for Sakamoto and remains his only Top 40 hit. The song went to #1 in five other countries, including Norway and Japan, peaked at #6 in Great Britain, was Billboard’s tenth-biggest song of the year, and a version by A Taste of Honey peaked at #3 on the Hot 100 in 1981. Sukiyaki is not the Japanese title of the song and is not mentioned in the lyrics and is, in fact, a Japanese beef dish, chosen as a catchy phrase to appeal to English speakers.

It was also a block away from the cat’s birthplace, where The Ex and I picked up her and her sick, dead-in-two-months sister, a kitten I still think about from time to time, who gave it her all, but ultimately didn’t make it…Part of us wanted to see if that young, broke couple that was giving the large litter away was still there to thank them for the cat and over a decade of good companionship, but we couldn’t remember which apartment was theirs…

History’s long march.
In 1902 – The United States Congress passes the Spooner Act, authorizing the purchase of French assets used in an attempt to build what is now the Panama Canal. This was dependent on a treaty being negotiated with Colombia, who proved rather snitty in the matter, so the US recognized the Colombian territory of Panama as an independent nation and signed a treaty with them. The law was signed by President Theodore Roosevelt the following day.
In 1939 – The New York Yankees establish major league records for most home runs in a game and in consecutive games in 23-2 and 10-0 wins over the Philadelphia Athletics. The Yankees had eight home runs in the first game and five in the second game and research into whose records the Yankees broke was inconclusive. The single-game record is now ten (Toronto, 1987) and the record for most home runs in consecutive games is now 14 (Cincinnati, 1999).
In 1959 – Lloyd Price is at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Hot R&B Sides chart – for the first of five consecutive weeks with Personality. It was the third of four soul #1s for Price and his ninth of 15 Top 10s. The song also peaked at #9 in Great Britain, was in its third and final week at #2 on the Hot 100, and was Billboard’s third-biggest song of the year. Earlier in the year Price had hit #1 on the Hot 100 with Stagger Lee.

History’s long march.
In 1358 – The Republic of Ragusa is formed on the eastern Adriatic Sea after having been part of the Venetian Republic. Its capital was Dubrovnik, also known as Ragusa, and the country would reach its economic peak in the 15th and 16th centuries before eventually being conquered by Napoleon and being annexed by Italy in 1808. Today what used to be Ragusa is now part of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
In 1993 – Anthony Young of the New York Mets establishes a new major league record for most consecutive losses in a 5-3 loss to the St Louis Cardinals. It was the 24th consecutive loss for Young, breaking the record of 23 established by Cliff Curtis of the Boston Doves from 1910-11 and Young would go on to lose 27 straight games, a record that still stands. During the streak, Young was 0-14 as a starter, 0-13 as a reliever, and had twelve saves.
In 1981 – Rick James is at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart for the third of five consecutive weeks with Give It To Me Baby. It was the ninth of 23 Top 40 soul hits for James, his fourth of 13 Top 10 soul songs, and his second of four #1s. The song also peaked at #47 in Great Britain, went to #1 on Billboard’s dance chart, and peaked at #40 on the Hot 100. James was born James Ambrose Johnson, Jr in Buffalo in 1948 and died in Los Angeles in 2004. In the 1960s, he served a year in prison for desertion from the US Navy.

1. GOP – Great job Republicans, stacking supreme court so you can force your morality on the rest of us…Party that once gave us Lincoln has not produced a decent elected president since Eisenhower…In fact, you plot George W Bush and Donald Trump on a graph and you’ve got a perpendicular line that ain’t going up.
2. #SexStrike – Nascent movement where chicks pledge not to put out unless deliberately trying to get knocked up could make it even tougher for working bachelors – like SB5 pollsters for instance – to score.
3. USA! USA! – Declining, once-proud country now well closer to the oblivion that awaits her than the respect and esteem she once had…Middle ground long gone from America now, as US currently nothing more than cesspool of fringe elements trying to force morality, way of life, off on everyone else.
4. GOP II – Guys, states with GOP governors can ban all the abortions they want, but it will not go away…Humans have been terminating unwanted pregnancies for 3,000 years and letting unwanted babies die of exposure since time immemorial…Why any citizen of a nation conceived in liberty wants their government butting in on their lives like this is not known as SB 5 pollsters remain “pretty sure” mankind has never successfully legislated morality…All we’ve done is create more criminals…Thanks GOP!!!
5. MLB – America’s former national pastime – replaced some years ago by NFL, mass shootings – foisting some lousy baseball off on us, with no less than six (6) teams currently with “winning” percentages under .400 the highest total on this date since 2001…Closed-circuit for stat geek(s) in audience: 2014 was only season this century where there zero (0) teams under .400 on June 26.

In 1948 – The Berlin Airlift begins after the Soviet Union blocks Allied access to their sectors of West Berlin. The Soviets were convinced an airlift would fail, however, American and British forces flew 278,228 flights, delivering over 2.3 million tons of supplies, two-thirds of which was coal. The airlift ended in September 1949, with the US making about three-fourths of the flights. The Soviets lifted the blockade in May 1949, though flights continued so a surplus of supplies could be obtained.
In 1959 – Ingemar Johansson of Sweden defeats Floyd Patterson of the US for the world heavyweight boxing title at Yankee Stadium. Johansson knocked Patterson down seven times in the third round before earning a TKO and Patterson would become the first heavyweight to reclaim the title in June 1960, with a sixth-round knockout of Johansson. Liston would defeat Johansson again in 1961 before losing the title to Sonny Liston in 1962.
In 1982 – Asia is at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart for the fourth of nine non-consecutive weeks with Asia. It was the first of six chart albums for the supergroup made up of former members of King Crimson, Yes, and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, and remains their only #1. The album also went to #1 in Canada, peaked at #11 in Great Britain, and was Billboard’s #1 album of the year. The album produced two Top 40 hits including the Top 10 song Heat of the Moment.
