The Daily Dose/December 1, 2021
By Gaylon Kent – America’s Funniest Guy™

Gaylon’s vacation continues but we have some stuff for you anyway. Enjoy.

Today At The Site
Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow visits a used book store. Today’s Diary.

I ended up with seven books and based on the prices noted inside ol’ Sparrow was expecting to pay upwards of $70 and then you tack shipping to The Shire on top of that and you’re probably looking at close to a C note…No sir…Ol’ Sparrow was out the door for less than $30, he is not making that up…

The Bottom Ten/NFL Week 14 – The race for The Dan Henning Trophy stumbles on.

Lions 28th NFL team to start NFL season 0-10…

Owner Genghis Khan calls off fatwa on coaching staff – for now – now that Jaguars back in B-10 title hunt…

Game so lousy Congress thinking of moving holiday to July so no one has to watch the Lions on Thanksgiving anymore…

The Bottom Ten/NFL Week 14

The Bottom Ten/NFL Week 14
By Gaylon KentAmerica’s Funniest Guy™

Not for the first time, it’s the Detroit Lions and a cast of thousands in the race for the most coveted trophy in sports – The Dan Henning Trophy, symbolic of NFL Bottom Ten supremacy – as yet another Bottom Ten title is there for the losing, literally, for the Lions.

Bottom Ten pollsters are grateful for this because despite their bar tabs getting frequent, strenuous use, if the Lions actually win a game or two (2) they still have no idea how Detroit’s tie will factor into the final Bottom Ten rankings.

This week’s mess, as the nags approach the head of the stretch:

The Daily Dose/November 30, 2021
By Gaylon Kent – America’s Funniest Guy™

Though Gaylon’s vacation continues, Sparrow has an update from the road in a very special Diary of a Nobody.

In a programming note, for the first time in 20 years the NCAA Bottom Ten is taking a week off. It’s OK, though, because you’re only missing the Week 14 Interregnum Poll, necessitated by the college football season not ending until May. Next week it will be The Bottom Ten/Bowl Game Edition and the final NCAA Bottom Ten will run the following week. – gk

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow does some traveling to visit an aunt, uncle and cousins for the holiday. Today’s Diary.

…[some cousins] had some Harry Potter stuff with them and I think they put a spell or a pox on me, we’ll have to wait and see if I’m a toad or something in the morning.

On This Date
The long march to today.

In 1789 – Thanksgiving is celebrated in the US for the first time, the event proclaimed in October by President George Washington, at the request of Congress. The idea had come from New Jersey Congressman Elian Boudinot during debate over the Bill of Rights to acknowledge “the many signal favors of Almighty God”. Previously, the Continental Congress had called for national days of “prayer, humiliation and thanksgiving” at assorted times.

In 1956 – Egil Danielson of Norway establishes a new world record in the javelin, winning the gold medal at the Melbourne Summer Olympics. Danielson’s throw of 281 feet, 2.41 inches broke the record of 274 feet 5.67 inches established by Janusz Sidlo of Poland the previous June. Danielson’s mark came after Sidlo had given him his steel javelin and another competitor had given him a strong cup of coffee. Due to new javelin specifications over the years, some world records have been rescinded and the current record is 323 feet, 1.17 inches by Jan Zelezny, then of Czechoslovakia, in 1996.

In 1988 – Rattle and Hum by U2 is at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart for the third of five consecutive weeks. It was the second of eight #1 albums for the group – and the second of five consecutive #1 albums – and produced four chart singles and two Top 40 hits, including the #3 hit Desire. The album also went to #1 in eight other countries, including Norway and Great Britain and due to when it charted was Billboard’s 29th biggest album of 1989.
