Today At The Site
Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow’s bosses at the VSO knock on his door. Today’s Diary.

Turns out it’s Kelly and Julie, the Human Service department head and assistant department head and, God bless them, they’re bearing pizza…They’re on a goodwill mission in the building and they offered me a couple of slices and, not wanting to cause offense, I took them…I hadn’t seen either for a year or so, but if they were caught up in emotion over this they hid it marvelously and quickly moved on to the Building Department.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

The quality of any man’s life is a full measure of that person’s personal commitment to excellence and to victory, regardless of what field he may be in.

The Diary of a Nobody/May 12

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Wednesday, May 12
Mark appeared out of sorts tonight…He’s pretty reserved and hardly does backflips when I report for duty, but he was quieter than usual tonight…He sounded tired and he didn’t even offer his usual turnover spiel – which seldom varies by more than a couple of words each week –  when I presented myself to relieve him.

The Diary of a Nobody – At the hotel, Sparrow slashes a water bottle with his new knife. Today’s Diary.

Utter catastrophe was averted this morning while restocking the water in sundry stand refrigerator…There was a fresh case of that fancy-pants $2.50/bottle fancy water to open and it’s got that infernal shrink wrap around it and ol’ Sparrow is in the habit of using the knife for this evolution…Of course, you must take care not to slash open a water bottle and that wasn’t a problem until this morning.

I don’t know if I’m becoming disabled or if yours truly wasn’t paying proper attention but a bottle was slashed today…Well, not really slashed, more like a slit, but no matter, it wasn’t salable and had to be tossed…My hands aren’t shaking nor is my mind wandering, too much, so I suspect some extra attention next time will avoid future slashings.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

The mass never comes up to the standard of its best member, but on the contrary, degrades itself to a level with the lowest.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow might have a workers comp claim. Today’s Diary.

I tweaked my back this morning…I was – and I am not making this up – scratching my ass when it happened…I was in the restaurant getting ready to get the breakfast sacks out of the cooler when I started to scratch and the itch was a bit farther down than the original estimate and I did something I shouldn’t have and BOOM, tweaked back…It wasn’t too bad and some immediate stretching helped somewhat and it should be OK in a couple/few days.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow gets the first walk of the season in. Today’s Diary.

Well, there was a sign at the fork that said it was a half-mile back towards the rodeo grounds, so I headed back to make it a mile, then headed towards the end of downtown and then back to the gym for a bit more than a two-mile walk, which produced a nice, satisfying feeling because it’s always good to overcome the voice inside you directing you to the easy way.

The Sunday Bottom 5
A ranking of some things.

1. NHL Good job fining noted ruffian Tom Wilson only $5,000 for beating that would have gotten him 5-to-10 in other jurisdictions…Perhaps they’re waiting for Wilson to inflict permanent, career-ending damage or maybe even death before taking real action.

2. South Carolina Lawmakers – determined to kill somebody, goddammit –  reauthorize firing squad for executions because of difficulty in poisoning them to death…This despite fact America has executed people who didn’t really commit the crimes they were condemned for, though Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters appear to be only ones finding this shameful.

3. Lauren Daigle The 3-hole staple, singer’s hit You Say extends Billboard all-chart record for most weeks at #1 with 127th non-consecutive week at top of Hot Christian Singles chart…Ever envious Morman Tabernacle Choir still looking for similar chart run though they are finding it difficult to rally support amongst faithful for goth version of A Mighty Fortress is Our God despite being written by Martin Luther during Gothic Era.

4. Liz Cheney Bravely trying to buck Donald Trump’s hold on the GOP…Trump remains a lying sexual predator who believes the moon is part of Mars, leading Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters to wonder which of these traits earned his supporters loyalty.

5. Lincoln by Gore Vidal One of the joys of reading: a book that never gets old, as fourth or fifth reread of historical novel as good as first go-round…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “pretty sure” historians still getting shorts in knots over perceived inaccuracies should “like, get a life and stuff.”

Hurray for Read Free Sunday at The Diary of a Nobody.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow has the latest from the hotel’s sundry stand. Today’s Diary.

The big news is there is a new offering in at the sundry stand…I am not making that up…It’s an ice cream treat, the original Klondike bar, and to make room for it a row of Oreo Klondikes were eliminated…So now on the middle row, left to right, there’s Choco-Tacos, those Reese’s sandwich deals, Oreo Klondikes and the original Klondikes…Individual Ice cream remains above and pizza remains below.
