Saturday, May 8 There was a funny line with/for Assistant Front Desk Manager Q tonite, a pretty good one that just might be a Line of the Year candidate…Q’s just back from vacation and like ol’ Sparrow he had put on weight and, also like ol’ Sparrow, was determined to take measures and it should be noted Q has many more measures to take in this regard than yours truly has…Regular readers of this crap also may – or they may not – recall Q does not drive, so he takes taxis home from time to time.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow is a week or so into his vegetable eating regimen and is pretty pleased with it. Today’s Diary.
Now, I am still observing the Wednesday Sparrow Buffet (WSB) and FastFood Saturday Breakfast (FFSB), but otherwise, I’ve done a really good job of being on program and there are already results, so we’re going to keep at it.

The big news from the Laundry Desk is the seasonal sock switch out (SSSO) was done today, too…The winter socks were washed a couple of days ago and thrown on the floor so I could use the dryer for stuff just out of the washer and today I got them rounded up, sorted and tossed in a drawer…Recently ol’ Sparrow had splurged on some new spring/summer socks, the same leading national brand from the retailer I started using a couple of years ago, but the color schemes are a bit different…Almost interesting is it is not entirely clear where last year’s spring/summer sock inventory is…Some are in the drawer and some – in what is not being heralded as the Upset of the Year – scattered on the bedroom floor, but a complete inventory hasn’t been attempted yet.

– Hey, Sparrow… – Yes, ma’am… – On the sheet, you have 106 as both a late checkout and an after-audit check-in…
Her tone feigned accusation and I played along, standing a bit behind her, scratching my chin, as if reviewing evidence with her…It should be noted that it is entirely possible for a room to be both an after-audit check-in and have been extended the courtesy of a late departure; they’re hardly mutually exclusive…But:
– You also have 217 as an after-audit check-in here in the logbook… I lean over a bit, reviewing both the housekeeping report and the logbook before making a sound and looking at Gloria. – 106 is actually code for 217…It’s something new we’re trying…To foil criminals.

The Diary of a Nobody – At the hotel, Sparrow identifies the source of some music emanating from the front desk area. Today’s Diary.
I’ve been knocking around hotel front desks an awful long time and have never heard of a cash drawer producing music but in the same spirit that must’ve driven Columbus across the Atlantic I open the drawer and there’s a phone in there with a Post-It that shows it was found in the lobby bathroom and plainly its 0500 alarm had gone off…I pick up the phone and shut the alarm off and BOOM, immediately it asks if I slept well…Just for funsies I hit ‘no’ because I’ve been at work all night and return it to the drawer.

The Diary of a Nobody – At the VSO, Sparrow wastes some time on the phone. Today’s Diary.
The tone of his message made it sound like we were BFFs but if we had met the particulars were escaping me…I called him back and it turned out he used to live in the county and a couple of years ago he had called my predecessor Natalie about someone looking for some horses and now he had one for sale and he and Natalie were such good pals he didn’t even know she’d left the post over two years ago…I was obliged to lose ten minutes of my life listening to him yap about horses and why he moved and why he might move back and get the sheriff recalled…
