The Bottom Ten is in reruns this year. This week Bottom Ten pollsters are, more or less, pleased to present the 2017 Week 2 survey.
The Bottom Ten/NCAA Week 2 By Gaylon Kent America’s Funniest Guy
The Week 2 Bottom Ten survey is often a mess. Sure, the teams you expect to blow turn in dutiful losses but there are always one, or three, teams that flew under the Week 1 radar presenting themselves for ranking.
I filled up after the hotel…Regular readers of the crap know we’ve been pushing 40 mpg for most of the year – and even topping it twice – and I am trying to week over the drop to the 37s, but I’m sure we’ll be back up near 40 soon enuff.
Still, tho, yours truly has no idea what went wrong…Currently, I’m blaming the resurfacing they’re doing on the highway heading into town, but even an idiot like me knows that probably isn’t it, but who the hell knows.
As I should be, I am content with my hotel career. My body of work stands on its merits: the naked chicks, the 10-10’s, the Foot on the Desk percentage; all have ensured my place in the hotel history books. But, more than anything, I suppose, I will forever be known as co-founder of the International Henry Units and mentor to X-Ray and I did that work well because X-Ray is going straight to the top in the hotel racket.

In 1974 – President Gerald Ford pardons former President Richard Nixon for crimes he committed or may have committed during his presidency. The pardon was heavily criticized at the time and while history has generally been kind to Ford in this matter the immediate aftermath was not. The GOP lost 43 seats in the 1974 midterms and the move likely cost Ford election to the presidency in 1976.
In 1896 – The Baltimore Orioles (National League) establish a new major league record for most wins on consecutive days, defeating the Louisville Colonels 10-9 and 3-1. The day before the Orioles had defeated the Colonels in only second triple-header ever, 4-3, 9-8 and 12-3. The mark broke the record of four, which had been done many times and, because current rules prohibit tripleheaders, cannot be broken. The Colonels also established a new major league record for most losses on consecutive days.
In 1973 – Marvin Gaye is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first of two consecutive weeks with Let’s Get It On. The song was also in its fourth of six consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart was Gaye’s third and final pop #1 and his tenth of 13 soul #1s. Let’s Get It On was Billboard’s fourth biggest song of the year, it’s #1 soul song of the year, the seventh biggest hit of the decade and placed 41st on their 60th anniversary Hot 100 in 2018. The song also peaked at #31 in Great Britain.

The only way to ensure you are paying the highest possible rate is to book it advance…Those who were smart enuff to do this for their stay here tonight were paying a bit more than $300.
By this time it is 0430; two and half hours have ended since I concluded 482 and I’ve had one call and patrolled exactly two floors. I had better get on the stick, so I spent the last 45 minutes running from floor to floor and managed to get one more round in.
I think you can see why I don’t want to leave the hotel.

In 1940 – Nazi Germany begins an aerial assault on England that History refers to as The Blitz. London suffered attacks for 76 consecutive nights before the Germans moved on to other cities and the attacks destroyed about 60% of the residences in London and killed an estimated 43,000 people. The Blitz – the German word for ‘lightning’ – would last until the following May, ending with inconclusive military results when Germany decided to invade the Soviet Union.
In 1993 – Mark Whitten of the St Louis Cardinals ties major league records for most home runs and RBIs in a game and most RBIs in a doubleheader in a 15-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the second game of a twin bill. Whitten had four home runs and 12 RBIs in the game to become the twelfth player with four home runs in a game and the second with 12 RBIs in a game (Jim Bottomley, Cardinals, 1924) and 13 RBIs in a dpubleheader (Nate Colbert, San Diego Padres, 1972). All three records still stand.
In 1985 – John Parr is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first of two consecutive weeks with St Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion). It was Parr’s third of five chart singles, his second and final Top 40 hit and remains his only #1 song. The song also went to #1 in Canada, peaked at #6 in Parr’s native Great Britain and was Billboard’s 18th biggest song of the year. The song was written by Parr and David Foster and appears on the soundtrack to the movie St Elmo’s Fire.

The Daily Dose/September 6, 2020 By Gaylon Kent America’s Funniest Guy
The Sunday Bottom 5 The very best of the very worst of the week that was.
1. American Sports – Virus Era proving it’s pointless to play games without us fans in attendance…Yes, they are official league games and History will duly record the results, TV network checks will be cashed and trophies will be issued, but it means nothing without us. Especially silly are moments of silence in empty stadiums.
2. American Sports II – On the other hand, people pay good money to have shows about people building motorcycles delivered to their homes, so we’ll watch anything…Besides, we’re all too fat to sit in those narrow seats anyway and it saves us from having to fork over money we’re not making anyway. …Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “pretty sure” empty stadiums wave of future, as leagues could go pro wrestling on us and have exciting, predetermined outcomes.
3. Permission Structure – Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “pretty sure” they have no idea what this is, just like the president doesn’t have any idea what it is…Further proof – as if any was required – that this Administration is led by a president who is utter dolt, incapable of doing anything of substance.
4. Fake News – Click here to see what some of our fellow humans were actually believing this week.

…this meant I couldn’t extend anyone and we got two of those requests and one guy didn’t take it well.
– I’m sorry, sir we’re sold out for tonight. I’m unable to extend your stay.
– I’m already here. You have to take me.
Well, no we don’t…This reminded me of the dolt in Sin City who wanted to “prepone” his reservation when he showed up a day early and we were sold out. In both cases there is nothing to do but say no because, as we’ve noted here, you can’t crap available rooms…Either you have rooms or you don’t.
Schempp finds me in short order and corners me on the southeast corner of level five. I try to get away with a greeting and wave but nothing doing, Schempp maneuvers his bike so my only options are running over Schempp or stopping and listening to Schempp.
Judy would later say I should have run him over for the good of the crew.

In 1522 – The Victoria becomes the first ship to circumnavigate the earth, returning to Spain three years after setting sail as one of five ships in an expedition commanded by Ferdinand Magellan. The expedition had left with roughly 265 men, but only Victoria, commanded by Juan Sebastian Elcano, returned, with a crew of 18. The ship had sailed over 42,000 nautical miles, and returned home with torn sails and needing to have water continuously pumped out. Magellan had died in what is now the Philippines in 1521.
In 1981 – Fernando Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Dodgers ties the modern National League record for most shutouts by a rookie in a 5-0 victory over the St Louis Cardinals. It was the seventh shutout of the season for Valenzuela and research into whose record he tied was inconclusive. Valenzuela would finish the season with eight shutouts which tied the modern major league record for shutouts by a rookie, eight, which had been done twice (Russ Ford, New York Highlanders – now the Yankees – 1910 and Reb Russell, Chicago White Sox, 1913).
In 1975 – Glenn Campbell is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first of two consecutive weeks with Rhinestone Cowboy. The song also went to #1 in Ireland, Yugoslavia and Canada, peaked at #4 in Great Britain and also spent two weeks at #1 on Billboard’s country chart. It was the first of two #1 pop songs for Campbell (Southern Nights, two weeks, 1977) and his third of four country #1s. The song was written by Larry Weiss, whose 1974 version peaked at #24 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart.

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…
Saturday, September 5 Though we were sold out, it was a fairly routine night…When I reported for duty not only was every room already booked, but everybody was in, too, meaning ol’ Sparrow wasn’t pestered by having to check-in pesky guests.
