Notes from around the human experience.
HERE WE GO AGAIN: President Trump’s go-round with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was a microcosm of everything Trump, with discourtesy, ignorance, and blather once again taking center stage.
Dry, Technical Matter: President Trump believes the Black South African government is slaughtering whites. This is false, and the president – hardly for the first time – is delusional. But America is OK with that now, as ignorance now sets the pace in this country, with blather and ignorance exactly what America wants.
Fly In The Ointment: Nobody is telling this man no. No one is saying “you’re wrong” or “this is false” or “this will be bad for the country”. You and me – we the people – are the lesser for it. This is hardly a bulletin, either. It was obvious from the day he announced his candidacy in 2015 that blather, ignorance, and bluster were all he had to offer.
Fly In The Ointment II: It didn’t matter. The media escorted this nonsense directly into the primaries and the nomination. An American electorate refreshingly open to Trump’s idiocy took it from there, twice handing him the White House.
The Bottom Line: A hundred years from now, all new people, including Americans if there are any left, will look back at the Trump Era and wonder what in the hell we were thinking, why America tolerated such idiocy and incompetence. The reasons are varied, but we are a partisan, fractured, and bickering mess now, most of us are fat, and we watch several hours of TV a day. America was ripe for an ignorant leader.

…we advised we are not entirely sure if we will continue using that get-rid-of-the-gray shampoo we used last time we had hair, probably 2-3 years ago, or if we are going to surrender to Father Time and let the gray do it’s thing.

In 1807 – A grand jury in Virginia indicts former vice president Aaron Burr for treason. His trail, presided over by Chief Justice John Marshal, began in August and Burr was later acquitted because the constitutional requirement of either a confession or two witnesses could not be met. Burr then fled to Europe, returning to the US in 1812. He died in New York in 1836 and may be best known for killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel while vice president in 1804.
In 1930 – Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees establishes a new major league record for the most games hitting three or more home runs in a 20-13 win over the Philadelphia A’s in the second game of a doubleheader. It was the third time Gehrig had hit three home runs in a game, and research into whose record he broke was inconclusive. Gehrig would later hit four home runs in a game, and the record for most three-home-run games is now six, done three times.
In 1993 – Janet Jackson is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the second of eight consecutive weeks with That’s the Way Love Goes. It was the 15th of 27 Top 10 hits for Jackson and her sixth of ten #1 pop songs and her eighth of 16 soul number ones. The song also went to #1 in five other countries, including Greece and the Netherlands, peaked at #2 in Great Britain, and was in its third of four consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart.
