USA! USA! The witlessness simply is not stopping. Not that we expected it to, because witlessness is President Donald Trump’s stock-in-trade. He is a man of zero moral or intellectual substance, an ignorant, lying sexual predator who once said the moon was part of Mars.

Dry, Technical Matter: Our favorite witless instances this term include making Canada our 51st state, playing tariffs/no tariffs with the rest of the world, plus the recent imbroglio over Rosie O’Donnell and Elon Musk’s citizenship. Recall Trump said he would “look into” revoking it.

LOL: This is witless because there’s nothing to look into: a president does not have this power, and that Trump even thought for a second that he did shows his ignorance.

More Dry, Technical Matter: The only way to lose US citizenship is to renounce it, denaturalization (look it up), or by committing certain infamous acts, and we are as shocked as you are that O’Donnell’s act isn’t one of them.

Fly In The Ointment: It’s not as if this is a bulletin, either, as Trump’s blather has been on display since he first announced for the presidency ten years ago. We’ve twice elected him president anyway, because it’s a post-knowledge America now, where substance takes a backseat to being told what we want to hear.

My Country ‘Tis Of Thee: America, long ago, became content with appeasement over accomplishment.

The Bottom Line: A hundred years from all new people – including Americans, if there are any left – are going to wonder exactly what in the hell we were thinking, twice electing an ignorant blatherskite like Trump president. The damage his blather and ignorance are causing will take a generation or two to overcome and History will record that Americans were open to blather and ignorance, and Donald Trump obliged them.

Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow listens to Tucker and Asher talk about joining the service. Today’s Diary.

Both are challenging, but don’t kid yourself, Marine recruits work harder at PT than sailors do, and we all work harder than those dorfman airmen who spend boot camp dining at carving stations and blowing up beach balls…

In 1945 – Clement Attlee becomes prime minister of Great Britain, when the Labor Party wins a 146-seat majority in Parliament. Labor defeated the Conservative Party, led by Winston Churchill, who had been prime minister since 1940. The election came less than two months after the end of the war in Europe and was the first parliamentary election since 1935. The election was held on July 5, and the results surprised most, includint Atlee. Atlee would serve until 1951, when he was replaced by Churchill.

In 2023 – The Atlanta Braves become the second major league team to complete an 8-3-5 triple play in a 7-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox. The play occurred in the bottom of the third inning when a fly ball to the center fielder (8) was caught, a throw to the first baseman (3) caught the runner who had left early, and a throw to the third baseman (5) retired the runner who had tagged from second base. The 1884 Boston Beaneaters first accomplished the play.

In 1975 – Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 with The Hustle. The song also went to #1 in Spain and Canada, peaked at #3 in Great Britain, spent a week at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart, and was Billboard’s 21st biggest pop song of the year. It was the first chart single for McCoy and remains his only Top 40 hit. McCoy died of a heart attack in 1979 at age 39.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

…those emotions and desires never leave you. The song transcends your age and continues to speak to that part of you that is both exhilarated and frightened about what tomorrow brings.
