Our job here is to protect Lydia…Then to protect the patient, tho Lydia is unlikely to start beating him, so mainly we’re protecting him from himself…Then we’re here to protect other hospital personnel…When all that is attended to, we can look after ourselves…

In 1715 – A solar eclipse is visible in Great Britain, an eclipse predicted by Sir Edmond Halley, of Halley’s Comet fame. Halley predicted the eclipse to within four minutes, a phenomenal accomplishment for an era where eclipses were seldom predicted. However, due to a faulty almanac, his prediction of the eclipses’ path was about 20 miles off. He was later able to correct this mistake, and also correctly predicted the path of the 1724 total eclipse.
In 1975 – Foolish Pleasure wins the 101st Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, defeating Avatar and Diablo. Foolish Pleasure would later finish second in the Preakness Stakes to Master Derby and second in the Belmont to Avatar. In July, Foolish Pleasure won a match race against Ruffian unchallenged after Ruffian broke down, and the Foolish Pleasure Stakes Calder Race Course in Florida is named for him.
In 2008 – Lil Wayne featuring Static Major is #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first of five non-consecutive weeks with Lollipop. It was the first of three #1 pop songs for Lil Wayne and remains the only #1 song for Static Major, who died before the song’s release, making him the eighth of nine acts to hit #1 posthumously. The song peaked at #26 in Great Britain, at #1 on Billboard’s soul and rap charts, was Billboard’s 4th-biggest song of the year, and also won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song.
