Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1927 – American Charles Lindbergh begins the first solo non-stop trans-Atlantic flight when he takes off from Roosevelt Field on Long Island for Paris in The Spirit of St Louis. Lindbergh took off with 450 lbs of fuel and landed in Paris 33-and-a-half-hours later. The first transatlantic flight had come in 1919 when two British pilots had flown from Newfoundland to Ireland. Roosevelt Field closed in 1951 and is now a shopping mall.

In 1984 – Larry Holmes and Michael Dokes retain their world heavyweight boxing titles in separate bouts on the same card in Las Vegas. Holmes retained his WBC title with a split decision over Tim Witherspoon, his 15th title defense, while Dokes retained his WBA title with a majority draw, with one judge scoring it for Dokes, while the other two judges ruled it a draw, the first draw in a heavyweight title fight since 1913.

In 1972 – The Staple Singers are at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Best Selling Soul Singles chart – for the third of four consecutive weeks with I’ll Take You There. It was the fifth of ten Top 40 soul hits for the group, their first of ten Top 10s, and their first of three soul #1s. The song also went #2 soul and #30 pop in Great Britain, later spent a week at #1 on the Hot 100, and was Billboard’s 19th-biggest song of the year.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

Distinctions in society will always exist under every just government. Equality of talents, of education, or of wealth cannot be produced by human institutions.
