Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1975 – The Vietnam War ends when North Vietnamese troops capture Saigon. Later in the day, South Vietnamese president Dương Văn Minh formally surrendered and was allowed to live in seclusion in his villa for several years before immigrating to the US, where he died in 2001. Vietnam would formally reunify as a socialist republic in July 1976,

In 1887 – The Baker Bowl in Philadelphia, home of the Phillies, hosts its first game, a 15-9 win over the New York Giants. The stadium was destroyed by fire in August 1894 and was rebuilt in time for the start of the 1895 season. The Phillies had an all-time record of 1612-1580 at the stadium and moved into Shibe Park in 1935. The Cleveland Spiders played nine games there in 1898, due to low attendance and bickering over Sunday baseball restrictions in Ohio.

In 1966 – The Temptations are at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Top Selling R&B Singles chart – for the only week with Get Ready. It was the seventh of 45 Top 10 soul hits for the group and their third of 15 soul #1s. The song also went #10 pop in Great Britain and peaked at #29 on the Hot 100 and in 1970, a version by Rare Earth went #4 pop and #20 soul.
