The Sunday Bottom 5
A ranking of some things.
1. War With Iran – War is still illegal and immoral, especially after reports surfaced saying Iran was will to give up all its uranium…Not good enough for President Trump, though…A man of no moral or intellectual substance, he wanted war anyway…We deserve better than this.
2. US Space Program– It took NASA 2,979 days and 17 manned missions to put men on the Moon…In 3,023 days (and counting), NASA’s Artemis program has flown once, an unmanned voyage around the Moon…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “pretty sure” the American Century is long gone now, replaced by citizens no longer willing to dare, but content to be well-entertained and well-fed.
3. USA! USA! – The 3-hole staple…Seven decades into TV and fast food being focal points of American life, we are well-fed and well-entertained and not too much interested in fussin’ over things – like ignorance and war – that do not directly threaten it…Yet…It will soon enough, though, because ignorance is the standard in America now.
4. CBS Radio News – Farewell to the last of the three original radio news networks still doing news – NBC Radio and Mutual were the others – as radio news division shutting down on May 22…Hardly a surprise in the 3rd decade of the 21st century, of course, but still, another piece of Americana down the tubes.

All of them were just waiting for the current yapper to catch their breath so they could dive back in, and we wanted to spray insecticide on them, but there wasn’t any at the front desk…

Extra, extra, read all about it.
In 1622 – Powhatan Indians attack the Jamestown, Virginia colony, killing 347 settlers and taking others captive. The deaths represented a quarter of the residents of the Virginia colony and marked the beginning of the 2nd Anglo-Powhatan War. The first war lasted from 1609-14, the second lasted for ten years, while the third was from 1644-46. Jamestown was founded in 1607, the first successful English colony in the New World.
In 1960 – The Philadelphia Warriors and the Boston Celtics establish a new NBA playoff record for most rebounds in a game in 128-107 Philadelphia win in Game 5 of Eastern Conference Finals. The teams combined for 169 rebounds; research into whose record they broke was inconclusive, and the record still stands. The teams combined to shoot 36.5% from the field, and the Celtics won the series in six games.
In 1997 – Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down by Puff Daddy featuring Mase is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first of six consecutive weeks. The song also peaked at #1 in Canada, reached #19 in Great Britain, topped Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and was their 5th-biggest song of the year and 27th-biggest of the decade. It was Puff Daddy’s first chart single and his first of five #1s, and the first of two #1 pop songs for Mase.
