USA! USA! One thing our current war with Iran has in common with other American wars is that this one was also not declared by Congress. This makes it illegal.
Stop Us If You’ve Heard This Before: Our Constitution – which took effect 237 years ago today – is very clear on the matter, with Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 stating:
The Congress shall have Power…To delcare War.
Fly In The Ointment: That seems pretty cut and dry: Congress declares war. Unfortunately, this provision could not be more violated if prizes were issued for noncompliance because Congress has declared war only eleven times in five wars: the War of 1812, the Mexican-American War, the Spanish-American War, and World Wars I and II.
Dry, Technical Matter: This means every war fought since then has been unconstitutional. From Korea to Iran and every battle in between, none were declared by Congress. This means roughly one hundred thousand Americans have died illegal, unconstitutional deaths.
The Bottom Line: In this regard, President Donald Trump is no different than any other president since FDR: he has gotten American kids killed illegally. We are tolerating this, too. Despite the fact we deserve better than this, despite the fact you and me – we the people – are entitled to have our constitution followed, we are not demanding it. We are content to appease ignorance and deceit.

You don’t steal from Sparrow, tho…While this wasn’t worth calling the constables over, we exacted a measure of revenge by double-charging them…This gets them two ways: either they pay the double charge, or they are obliged to go thru the hassle of disputing it…

In 1789 – The Constitution of the United States takes effect when the 1st Congress of the United States meets at Federal Hall in New York City. Quaroms in both the House and Senate would not be reached until April, with the Congress’s first act coming on April 6, the counting of electoral votes electing George Washington president and John Adams vice president on April 6. The Congress would pass its first law on June 1, prescribing the manner in which representatives and senators would take their oaths.
In 1999 – The Toronto Maple Leafs establish a new NHL record for fewest shots on goal by a winning team in a 4-0 win over the St Louis Blues. The Maple Leafs had nine shots on goal, research into whose record they broke was inconclusive, and the record still stands. The Maple Leafs got outshot 28-9 in the game.
In 1978 – Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson are at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles chart – for the first of four consecutive weeks with Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys. It was the seventh of 15 country #1s for Jennings and the fifth of 22 for Nelson. The song also went #1 country in Canada, peaked at #42 on the Hot 100, and was Billboard’s #1 country song of the year. The song also won the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group.
