The Diary of a Nobody/March 22

It’s Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

The Night At Work
It was busy tonite, but not all at once busy, they came in trickles, bothering ol’ Sparrow every 10-15 minutes or so…Most were sundry stand purchases, but some kid needed a bandage, there were a couple of arrivals, plus a gal, just back from the wedding, required make-up wipes.

We had a couple of requests for makeup wipes this weekend, which would’ve caused us to raise an eyebrow, if we could do tht without looking like we had gas…This is the first mke-up remover request we can recall fielding here, because for the longest time they were in the rooms…We know, we’ve stayed here several times and saw them each time, tho we’ve never had occasion to use them…Both ladies said they weren’t in their rooms, and we certainly don’t have them for sale at the sundry stand, nor are there any at the front desk…We put a note on Housekeeping’s whiteboard in the back office, and we’ll ask Head Housekeeper Gloria about it.

We managed to avoid the yappers from last nite, tho…Now, there were some people killing time in the lobby – which, of course, peeved me – but they were relatively quiet and well-behaved.

The big news is with the front desk cell where, once again, we cannot forward calls to…It appears to be working: you press the “Cell On” button on a front desk phone, and then you dial zero, and the call forwards to the front desk cell…However, you answer it, and there’s no one there…So we have no idea who called us, which is bad because you always answer the phone as quick as you can because you never know when it will be the third time in your career when someone says “Call 9-1-1.”…Later, we tried it with our phone and on my end you get the recording when the call isn’t answered in a few rings that tells you someone will be with you shortly.

News From The Neighborhood
The big news is we saw Zach’s chickens out on Maple Street this morning…Two of them, and one of them might’ve been the duck, too, but we’re not entirely sure; he was a ways away…What there wasn’t however – and what there hasn’t been most of the winter – was a sign of Zach…Not only have we not seen him, we haven’t seen his truck there, either…There is a vehicle parked there, his old Suburban, but that doesn’t appear to’ve been moved at all this winter.

In other news, Bandit appears to have still not adapted to the time change…Before springing forward, Bandit was very good about being in the window when I turned onto Maple Street…Since the change, tho, he’s only been there a couple of times, which is too bad, because it is completely adorable to have your cat in the window when you turn the corner for home…He’ll figure it out, tho…Cats are usually pretty good about figuring out daddy’s schedule.

A Good Workout…But…
There’s an old saying that the only bad workout is the one you don’t do…So in that respect, today’s workout was good.

But it really wasn’t.

Despite a nice, long rest (see Sleep Log below) we were tired and sluggish this afternoon…This is because we’ve eaten like an oink-oink for most of the week, and the results are starting to catch up to us…We did do our bo staff forms, deep breathing, and somehow managed to get weights in, but forget about the walk…We didn’t even bother, officially because we wanted to rest after several straight days of vigorous walking but, honestly, we’d been stuffing our face so much recently, we hadn’t earned a walk.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log:
1000 Sunday until 1730 Sunday…7.5 hours for the day, a good start to the sleep week.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
