Live From The Hotel
At the hotel tonite, Robert said he’d heard we have a blog…We told him we don’t, noting that blogging is merely jotting down crap that comes off the top of your head…We write, which is work…Still tho, we showed him both this site and the Sparrow for Congress site, and it was plain he was impressed…He said he was happy to know this because he had thought we were just some hotel nite audit loser, which was pretty funny because, of course, he is too, at another hotel.
It’s already offseason here at the hotel, tho the mountain is open for another couple of weeks…Most of it is closed, tho, and bare patches are already visible from town…The only open runs are now at the very top, where skiers and riders can go for up to 500 feet before trudging back to the top…When they’re done, they can take the gondolas back down, unless they want to ski down rocks.
The big news is we saw Julie tonite at the hotel…I am not making that up…Longtime readers of this crap will recall Julie…We met when we both worked at the timeshare, and later at Hotel B, tho she drank herself out of both those jobs, and tho we never dated, we’ve had dinner from time to time over the years, including at the now-closed fancy French joint (FFJ).
Honestly, we didn’t recognize her…She was driving the shuttle that brought the United crew here, and she walked in – perhaps to see if we were still working here – and she said: “Hi Sparrow”.
We looked at her blankly.
Julie has lost a lot of weight, enuff so that she now needs a square meal…Which is moderately interesting because we never thought she had that much to lose…But when she came up and hugged me it was like hugging a broomstick…We didn’t have much time to catch up, tho she did note she has a boyfriend – she’s never single for long – who we gathered he lives out of town somewhere.
A Shady Character
Around 0415 we’re setting up Morning Coffee Service (MCS) when a guy walks in…He’s a bit younger than me and looks harried and furtive…As soon as he enters the lobby, he moves to his left, against a wall and away from the front door, so as not to be seen…He looks back outside several times, and it is plain he is running from someone…We offer greetings, tho we’ve already decided not to rent to him…You don’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to strongly suspect something is fishy here, and no hotel needs that.
As it was, he made the decision for us…He said he needed a room – he glanced back outside again – but said he didn’t have a credit card, and would that be a problem???…Of course, it’s a problem, especially when you look like you’re on the run, which saves me from telling him we don’t want his business…We apologize and say we can’t rent to him without a one, and he turns to leave, but not before making sure the coast was clear…It wouldn’t have surprised us if a constable had later come by to ask about him, but none did.
Too bad because we had a professional description for a contable: WMA, late 40s-early 50s, blue over khaki, short, thinning salt-and-pepper hair…Any law enforcement pro would be thrilled with that description and in fact, it’s strait out of the Sin City Security Handbook: WMA is white, male adult, and blue over khaki is the color of his top and pants…It’s a concise way to give an accurate description over the radio.
Sparrow Oversleeps
We were late getting into the gym, so we did without a walk this evening…In fact, we only got one complete set of forms in, plus two more sets of deep-breathing forms, in addition to weights and neck work.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log:
0930 Saturday until 1730 Saturday…8.0 hours for the day and 52.0 hours for the week, an excellent weekly total…God bless all of you.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
