A Guest Stops By For A Chat
One of the functions of a nite auditor is to listen when people want to chat…This doesn’t happen all that often, but occasionally you get someone whose body clock is out of whack, and around midnite an older gent stops by…Earlier, he had been at the business center playing one of those games where you put numbers in a box that we’ve never understood.
– So they stick you on the nite shift???…All by yourself???
We smiled and shrugged.
– We rather enjoy the solitude, sir…
He nodded.
– …I live alone, too, sir..,.It’s a nice quiet life.
He nodded again…He was clearly thinking…To emphasize this, he rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
– There’s nothing wrong with that…
This is borderline insulting, of course…Every path is sacred, including mine, but we let it slide…One, there’s no reason to upset a guest…Two, it’s not that big a deal; it’s a natural reaction to someone who lives differently than you…He was still rubbing his chin, too.
– …my sisters both live alone…Never married…Either of them.
He looked at me and smiled.
– I’ve been married sixty years…
We noted that was only a bit older than we were…He didn’t hear it tho; he was in the mood to wax nostalgic.
– …some years have been easy, some have been work, but it’s worth it, just like life alone has been worth it for my sisters…
We nodded knowingly.
– …and for you, too, it appears.
We didn’t tell him we scour dating sites for potential mates, nor did we mention asking Elizabeth out, but that is merely ol’ Sparrow going thru the motions of answering Mother Nature’s mandate to mate.
– Indeed…Solitude works for some.
Here Comes The Bride…Or Not
Speaking of dating sites, we are off both the Indian site and the EuroDate site…We were talking with a woman in Moscow, but push came to shove and we didn’t want to import a wife…We blame Anna for this…We never had second thoughts with her, at least until it became clear all she wanted was money…So if we were ready with Anna, we’re not completely averse to the prospect…Love is the best, after all…But, sometimes, it was also beyond tolerance, and solitude is never that, so we’re picky.
From The Admin Desk
The big news is there were some minor changes to the hotel’s registration cards…Two changes: one, a line naming the new owners, who have only owned for going on two years now and, two, a line noting housekeeping is offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays and if you need service on the other days, please call the front desk by 1100.
One change that wasn’t made was a line having guests initial to acknowledge the parking fee…We had brought this up a couple of months ago, actually, with the Assistant Front Desk Manager (AFDM), who noted that it was apparently difficult and expensive to get registration cards changed and now that changes have been made, this one was left off.
From The Gym
There’s news from the gym: 1) we resumed weightlifting; 2) our shoulder is feeling better than ever.
Number one happened Sunday nite…We were in the mood to move some weight…Now, the days of ten rep failure are probably gone, and good riddance because ol’ Sparrow has happily exchanged intensity for consistency…So the weights were lite…Really lite…We did the same sequence, tho: three sets of ten or twelve, tho the 3rd-set weight was never more than what our warm-up set used to be, and sometimes it was a bit less…We did one exercise per body part: shoulders, biceps, bench press, tricep pulldowns, and leg curls/extensions…It felt good to move weight again, even weight that would not be a challenge for a 98-pound weakening…For warm-up, we did one set of forms.
The reason we were able to do this is because our shoulders are feeling better than ever…I am not making that up…Discomfort has not completely disappeared, but we are pleased to report there isn’t a whole lot of it anymore…Tonite we did three sets of forms and our shoulder therapy and boy, there was so little discomfort, it wasn’t even worth mentioning…Our shoulder therapy regimen has worked in spades.
GHSD Update
Tomorrow will be busy…The new security vendor at the hospital is holding some training this week…They take over the contract on Oct 5 and there are policies and procedures to learn, including requalifying on the taser…So I will leave the hotel as soon as Keenan arrives because training starts at 0700…Hunter knows I work, officially, until 0800, but it should be no problem-o getting there by 0715.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log
1200 Monday until 1800 Monday…6.0 hours for the day and 13.0 hours for the week.
The fly in the ointment was we had a 0900 phone call to discuss some publicity for our new project…The gent had something come up and a coworker emailed me to tell me the call wouldn’t be happening today.,.Well, as sometimes happens, we got a second wind and couldn’t get strait to sleep.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
