In 1782 – The Netherlands becomes the second country to recognize the government of the United States, when John Adams is accepted as minister plenipotentiary by the Dutch legislature. The house Adams had purchased in The Hague became the first US embassy and Adams would serve as minister until 1788. He was also minister to Great Britain, and would later serve as vice president and president.  

In 1947 – The Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 to win the best-of-seven series in six games. It was the sixth of 13 Stanley Cup titles for the Maple Leafs and was the third of eleven runner-up finishes for the Canadiens, to go along with an NHL-record 24 titles. It as the first all-Canadian final since 1935, and the most recent all-Canadian final was in 1989, when Calgary defeated the Canadiens in six games. 

In 1980 – Blondie is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first of six consecutive weeks with Call Me. The song also went to #1 in Luxembourg, Canada, and Great Britain, peaked at #2 on Billboard’s dance chart, was their #1 song of the year, and their 9th-biggest of the decade. The song was written by Debbie Harry and Giorgio Moroder and was the second of four #1 songs for the group.
