The Diary of a Nobody/June 16

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Sunday, June 16
Tonight Brandon noted he was so busy, and making so many notes with the scratch paper I produce, he showed me where he had actually stapled a dozen or so sheets together, so they don’t fly all over the place when he’s knee deep in it at the front desk.

Now, I’m on record as not really favoring stapling scratch paper together, but you gotta admire Brandon’s commitment to scratch paper and not slumming for the Post-It note…He also noted he scolded himself for tossing a scratch sheet after only one note when, with a mere cross-out the sheet could be used for two and maybe even three more notes, depending on length.

The big news is the Halliburton crew is back in-house…They’d been gone for most of the spring for some reason and I guess they booked late because we’re busy enuff that we don’t have room for the entire crew, some had to be pawned off at another hotel.

I had coffee ready for them, too, for their 0400 morning muster and it went over pretty well…The right pot was almost all gone – the left pot was hardly used at all and the cocoa got some moderate action, as well…The unidentified oaf who puts a half-gallon of hazelnut creamer in his morning joe appears to be back, too.

Had a very good workout today…I should have because Lord knows I was rested enuff (see Sleep Log below)…I am about ready for another round of upping some weights, specifically bicep work: hammer curls and the z-bar curls…I also upped the number of squats I do after each set from 30 to 35 and I am starting to notice some definition, on whatever that muscle’s called that goes from the inside near the knee up to the outer part of the thigh, which is really good for morale…And I am pleased to report the branched-chain amino acids I added last week for post-workout recovery is doing its job, too…It’s what was in the old pre-workout drink I took but isn’t in this new plant-based drink and recall I was sore after lifting…Not anymore…It’s doing exactly what it should do.

But this brings up a conundrum…Workout supplements aren’t cheap…Now, the Sparrow’s are hardly broke, but why should I spend more to add the amino acids when I can spend less for the non-plant based drink that has everything included???…I think when I run out of the current batches I might go back to the original stuff…We’ll see.

Here’s the latest on the housing market in our small town: Jerry’s house, of course, has been sold, for 315, less than the 350 he originally was asking and less than the 325 he had settled on…A house on the first street you see when you enter town (we’re on the corner of the second street) has gone on the market, also for 315…It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the pics of the inside look warm and inviting, and it has a detached garage that is bigger than our cabin at The Shire, and there is RV parking, with hookups, too…It’s taking a while to sell houses here in our section of town, but prices aren’t too bad and The Shire’s value is estimated to be a bit less than double what we paid for it, tho it should be noted our house was priced to move and we got a really good deal on it.

What’s moderately interesting is what’s going on with those small houses they built…Originally there were two buildings, each with two units, and they were on the market for 168, which seemed a lot for a 583-square foot home…Well, they’re for rent now, so either they were sold or they weren’t, I’m not sure…And they’re putting up three more buildings, too, which means six more homes…They’re going up quickly, too…I pass by them on the way to the gym and BOOM, there were walls put up in seemingly two days…The Wife thinks they’re made someplace else, which seems logical…The Wife also toured one, just for funsies, and says they’re pretty nice and appear to be well made, tho she added the loft upstairs is merely a crawl space and not big enough for anyone other than a toddler to stand up in.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 0930 Sunday until 1800 Sunday…8.5 hours, the longest Sunday Sleep Session, but far, of the year…It was longer than I wanted to sleep, frankly, because I was hoping to get up by 1600 or so and get to the gym before The Wife got home, but no dice…Still, the sleep week is off to a great start.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th century British novel of the same name.
