Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow can’t even be bothered to go out to lunch on his day off. Today’s Diary.

I don’t know what I needed a day off from, tho…I did – or didn’t do, I can never remember – squat Wednesday and it wasn’t as if the rest of the week was one long chore, either…

On This Date
The long march to today.

In 1884 – The Royal Observatory at Greenwich, England is designated the prime longitudinal meridian by the International Meridian Conference, meeting in Washington, DC. The conference designated the meridian “…passing through the centre of the transit instrument at the Observatory of Greenwich” as zero degrees longitude in an attempt to standardize both navigation at sea and international time.

In 2010 – The Texas Rangers win their first American League pennant, defeating the New York Yankees 6-1 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series in Arlington, Texas, the Rangers’ first postseason win over the Yankees after losses 1996 and 1998-99. The Rangers had defeated Tampa Bay in five games in an American League Division Series and would lose the World Series to the San Francisco Giants in five games.

In 1966 – The Supremes are at #1 on Billboard’s album chart – then known as the Top LPs chart – for the first of two consecutive weeks with The Supremes A’ Go-Go. It was the first of three #1 albums for the group and was the first album by an all-girl group to top the Billboard album chart. The album produced two chart singles including the #1 You Can’t Hurry Love and the album also peaked at #15 in Great Britain and was in its first of four non-consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s soul album chart.
