History’s long march.

In 1610 – Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei – using a telescope he made – discovers the first four moons orbiting Jupiter. At first, they were thought to be stars and remain the first objects found orbiting a planet other than Earth. They were named Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto and are known as the Galilean moons. A fifth Jovian moon wouldn’t be discovered until 1892 and today Jupiter is believed to have at least 79 moons.

In 1989 – The Cleveland Cavaliers tie the NBA record for most blocked shots in a game in a 104-96 win over the New York Knicks. The Cavaliers blocked 21 shots – eleven by Larry Nance – to tie the mark established by the Detroit Pistons in January 1980 and tied by the Los Angeles Lakers in April 1982. The mark was eclipsed by the New Jersey Nets (22) in December 1991 the record is now 23, done by the Toronto Raptors in March 2001. Blocks have been an official NBA stat since the 1973-74 season.

In 1978 – The Bee Gees are at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the third and final consecutive weeks with How Deep Is Your Love. The song went to #1 in five other countries including Brazil and Finland, peaked at #3 in Great Britain and was Billboard’s 6th-biggest song of the year. The song spent 17 consecutive weeks in the Top 10 establishing a record that has been broken many times since and the song was the first of a then-record tying six consecutive #1 songs for the group.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

Most men, even in this comparatively free country, through mere ignorance and mistake, are so occupied with the factious cares and superfluously coarse labors of life that its finer fruit cannot be plucked by them.
