History’s long march.

In 1952 – Elizabeth II becomes Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as other Commonwealth countries following the death of her father King George VI. Elizabeth was in Kenya with her husband Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the time and immediately returned home and her coronation would be in June 1953. At 70 years, Elizabeth is the longest-serving British monarch, the planet’s longest currently serving monarch, and the fourth monarch with a verifiable reign to serve at least 70 years.

In 1987 – Dennis Conner, sailing Stars & Stripes 87 wins the America’s Cup defeating Australian defender Kookaburra III, sailed by Iain Murray, off the coast of Freemantle, Australia and taking the series four races to zero. The Australians had earned the Cup in 1993 defeating Connor four races to three off Newport, Rhode Island. It was the third Cup win for Conner, who became the first person to win the America’s Cup after losing it and the series marked the first time it had not been defended by the New York Yacht Club.

In 1981 – Kool & the Gang is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first of two consecutive weeks with Celebration. The song also went to #1 in Canada and New Zealand, peaked at #7 in Great Britain, at #1 on Billboard’s soul and dance charts, and was Billboard’s 7th-biggest song of the year. It was the seventh Top 40 hit for the group, remains their only #1 pop hit, and was their fifth of nine #1 soul songs.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

To defeat them, almost anything was fair game. To lull your opponents into underestimating you was the art of a winning gamble.
