The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow finds pizza while wandering the hotel…Today’s Diary.

The only real worry here is some screwloose whackjob is looking to get a head start on his mass murder career as The Hotel Pizza Poisoner and there’s some arsenic in there, but sometimes you gotta take risks in the nite audit racket…

History’s long march.

In 1562 – Sixty-three Huguenots – Protestant followers of John Calvin – are massacred by Catholics in Wassy, in northeastern France. The massacre was led by Francis, Duke of Guise, who was returning to Paris and had heard about a Protestant gathering. After some initial resistance at the door, forces gained admittance to about 500 worshippers singing Psalms. History refers to the incident as the Massacre of Vassy, which would turn out to be the opening battle in the French Wars of Religion (1562-98).

In 1919 – Newsy Lalande of the Montreal Canadiens establishes a new NHL playoff record for most goals in a game in a 6-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators in Game 3 of the NHL Championship. Lalonde broke the record of three that had been done several times previously. The record still stands and has been equaled on four other occasions. The Canadiens won the best-of-seven series in five games and advanced to the Stanley Cup final against the Seattle Metropolitans of the Pacific Coast Hockey League in a series that was canceled after five games due to an influenza outbreak.

In 1980 – The Whispers are at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Hot Soul Singles chart – for the first of five consecutive weeks with And the Beat Goes On. It was the third of 13 Top 10 soul hits for the group and their first of two #1 soul songs. The song also went to #1 on Billboard’s dance chart, peaked at #2 in Great Britain, at #19 on the Hot 100, and was Billboard’s 5th-biggest soul song of the year.

Rick Barry’s NBA-record streak of 60 consecutive free throws made had broken the record of 58 established by Calvin Murphy of the Houston in the 1975-76 season.
