Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow reunites a dog and its owner. Today’s Diary.

We would’ve picked the dog up but 1) there was no guarantee he’d come with me, and, 2) dogs intuitively – and not without good reason – tend to despise me…

The Bottom Ten/NCAA Week 9 – Give me a B! The quest for the ESPNCup rolls on.

B-10 fan(s) everywhere waxing nostalgic as Wildcats making first B-10 run since, well, last year when team lost final six (6) games…

With more losses meaning value for naming rights for Wildcats’ new stadium sinking like stone, B-10 pollsters holding out until naming rights for Bottom Ten Field can be had for a couple of hundred bucks.

With B-10 title squarely in sights, AD fires head coach in hopes of getting offense on par with defense which ranks Dead Last in both Total Defense (524 ypg) and Scoring Defense (43.2 ppg).

Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1962 – During day ten of the Cuban Missile Crisis, United States Ambassador to the United Nations Adlai Stevenson confronts his Soviet Union counterpart with pictures of Soviet missiles in Cuba at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, with the Soviets declining to confirm their existence. The US also began enforcing its naval blockade of Cuba. Results were mixed, with the Navy failing to intercept one ship while boarding another before clearing it to proceed.

In 1968 – The United States wins the basketball gold medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, defeating Yugoslavia 65-50. Spencer Haywood led the US with 21 points and Jo Jo White added 14, and the team was coached by Henry Iba of Oklahoma State. It was the seventh of 16 basketball gold medals for the US and the first of four silver medals for Yugoslavia, which also won a gold medal in 1980.

In 1980 – Barbra Streisand is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first of three consecutive weeks with Woman In Love. The song went to #1 in 16 other countries including Finland, Norway, and Great Britain, and due to charting in both the 1980 and 1981 survey periods was Billboard’s 35th biggest song of 1981. It was the ninth of twelve Top 10 hits for Streisand and her fifth and final #1 song. The song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

Jackson was alternatively stern and soft, painting a portrait of a rising nation whose progress to glory could only be interrupted by the attempts of a single interest to seize power from the whole.
