The Bottom Ten/NCAA Week 6 – The race for the ESPNCup rolls on.

B-10 pollsters “pretty sure” Finlandia northernmost school to hold Continental Cup – issued to team with longest all-division losing streak in NATO – since Arctic Tech in 1943…

In 1582 – The Julian calendar is in use for the final day in Catholic countries, as the Gregorian calendar takes effect the following day, with Oct 4 followed by Oct 15. The calendar  The calendar had been promulgated by Pope Gregory XIII to correct the fact the Julian calendar was too short by about one day per century and the religious calendar was falling out of step with the seasons.  Protestant countries began adopting it in 1652 and Great Britain and her colonies, including what would become the United States, adopted the calendar in 1752. Due to a variety of factors, including the precession of the axis and the slowing rotation of the earth, the Gregorian calendar is still off by about 27 seconds every year.

In 1873 – The Toronto Argonauts, now in the Canadian Football League (CFL), are formed as a rugby/football team by the Argonaut Rowing Company as a way to keep fit after rowing season. Bowie wrote the song with longtime band member Carlos Alomar and John Lennon.
