Yours truly is pleased with it, too, especially because this means I can push my glass up past my forehead when they’re not needed…Now, you can do this when you have hair, too, of course, however, when you do this you’re usually blinded by the Brylcreem that’s accumulated on the lenses and it’s usually less hassle to take your glasses off and put them in your pocket.

History’s long march.

In 1999 – Two students open fire at Columbine High School south of Denver, killing 13 and wounding 24 others before killing themselves. The shootings by Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, both seniors, began at 11:19 am with most of the deaths occurring in the library between 11:29 am and 11:36 am. Though police response was prompt, authorities did not immediately enter the school, a circumstance that eventually led to changes in the way police handle active shooters. Klebold and Harris had also placed several bombs on campus, though none of them detonated.

In 1986 – Michael Jordan of the Chicago Bulls establishes a new NBA playoff record for most points in a game in a 135-131, two-overtime loss to the Boston Celtics in game two of their opening-round series. Jordan broke the record of 61 points established by Elgin Baylor of the Los Angeles Lakers in game five of the 1962 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics and Jordan’s record still stands. The Celtics would win the series in three games.

In 1935 – Bing Crosby with Georgie Stoll and His Orchestra are at #1 for the only week on the Your Hit Parade radio show survey with Soon, the first #1 song on America’s first record chart. It was the first of five #1 songs on this chart for Crosby and remains the only chart appearance for Stoll, who was the long-time musical director for MGM pictures and earned nine Oscar nominations over his career. The song was from the movie Mississippi and in 1944 Crosby had the first #1 on Billboard’s country chart.

The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

He’d done the right thing, he’d kept faith with his men, and perhaps that was enough.
