Writing worth reading. Usually.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow hits the gym for a rare Tuesday session. Today’s Diary.

Another consideration was 19 hours of sleep the past two days: that’s a full measure of rest for Sunday and Monday and if ol’ Sparrow went straight home he wasn’t likely to get to bed before noon – at the earliest – even with a quart of Zzz-Sleep in him, presenting another reason not to go strait home.

History’s long march.

In 1923 – Englishman Howard Carter unseals and enters the burial chamber to Egyptian King Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings, a bit north of Luxor. The tomb had been discovered the previous November and Carter spent ten years analyzing and cataloging the chamber’s inventory. Tutankhamun reigned from c. 1332-23 BC and was believed to be around 18 or 19 when he died, presumably of natural causes, though History has chosen not to record his cause of death.

In 1980 – Eric Heiden of Madison, Wisconsin establishes a new Olympic record in winning the gold medal in the 5,000 meters speed skating event at the Lake Placid Winter Games. Heiden won the race in 7 minutes, 2.29 seconds, and research into whose record he broke was inconclusive. The previous day Heiden had won the 500-meter race and would later win the 1,000, 1,500, and 10,000-meter races – the only person win all five races at a single Olympiad – and Heiden remains the only person to win five gold medals in any sport at a single Winter Olympics

In 2013 – Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz are at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the third of six non-consecutive weeks with Thrift Shop. The song went to #1 in many other countries, including Norway, Brazil, and Great Britain, was also in its fourth of 14 consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart, and in its fifth of 15 consecutive weeks at #1 on its rap chart. The song was Billboard’s biggest pop, soul, rap song of the year, its 27th biggest song of the decade, and its biggest soul and rap song of the decade. It was the second and most recent #1 song for the duo and remains Wanz’s only appearance on a Billboard chart.

Answer To The Last Trivia Question
Knowledge is power.

Linda Ronstadt has had two #1 hits on Billboard’s country chart: When Will I Be Loved (one week, 1975) and To Know Him Is To Love Him (one week, 1987).
