History’s long march.

In 1916 – Louis Brandeis’s appointment to the US Supreme Court is confirmed by the United States Senate. As a lawyer, Brandeis was a fierce defender of individual rights and privacy and tended to work for free on cases that interested him. Brandeis’ nomination led to the first public hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee, resulting in an unprecedented four months passing between Brandeis’ nomination by President Woodrow Wilson and his confirmation. Brandeis succeeded Joseph Lamar and upon his death in 1939 was succeeded by William O. Douglas.

In 1979 – The Seattle SuperSonics win the NBA title, defeating the Washington Bullets 97-93 in game five to win the series 4 games to 1. Gus Williams had 23 points for Seattle, their defense held Elvin Hayes to nine points in the second half, and Seattle’s Dennis Johnson was named the series MVP. It remains the last NBA title won by a Western Conference team that was not from California or Texas. The team moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 and this remains the franchise’s only NBA title.

In 1963 – Lesley Gore is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first of two consecutive weeks with It’s My Party. It was her first chart single, her first of eleven Top 10 hits, and remains her only #1 song. The song also went to #1 in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, peaked at #9 in Great Britain, and also went to #1 on Billboard’s soul chart. The song was produced by Quincy Jones, his first #1 song.

Answer To The Last Trivia Question
Knowledge is power.

The longest uninterrupted period of time the 100-meter world record has been held is 14 years, 8 months, and 19 days, done by Jim Hines of the US, who held the record of 9.95 seconds from October 1968 until July 1983.
