The Sunday Bottom 5
A ranking of some things.

1. Ready…Aim…Fire Don’t get lost now message in US, as strangers at door and in driveways now fair game as open season now declared on those with nerve to lose their way…To their credit, though, gun nuts everywhere decrying decline of warning shot in America, as once common courtesy might have prevented useless carnage.

2. Oakland A’s You know guys, you want to leave, good riddance, grab the Las Vegas promised land before anyone else does, tho had you really wanted to, you could’ve had a shiny new stadium next to your current dump…With previous stops in Kansas City and Philadelphia, Vegas bookmakers already taking action on where you’ll move to in 2075.

3. #USA! #USA! The 3-hole staple…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters continue to “strongly suspect” US has until this half-century is out to get their arse in gear before country implodes under weight of its ignorance and intolerance and remain “pretty sure” none of the major announced candidates in either party will help us get there…US hasn’t been led since Kennedy avoided nuclear war and said “let’s go to the moon”, tho US electorate seems OK with that.

4. NFL Five (5) players suspended for gambling, three (3) on NFL games and two (2) for gambling on other things in NFL facilities…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters not ones to gloat, but did they call it or what???…You get in bed with legalized gamblers and these things are going to happen, with nation, Roger Goodell, breathlessly awaiting news on first fixed NFL games.

5. NBA Playoffs Assault and battery legal now in quest for NBA title, as players getting slugged, beaten, and stepped on left and right nowadays, making already barely tolerable game now completely unwatchable…Like our government, Americans can’t get enough of it, though, so expect tie games to be resolved by MMA contest instead of overtime in time for NBA Finals.

Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1635 – Boston Latin School – the oldest public school in the US – is established. Classes were held at the headmaster’s home until the school opened its own schoolhouse in 1745, the school is now located in the southwestern part of the city, near Northeastern University, and remains the oldest existing school in the country. They have played football against Boston English High School since 1887, the oldest high school sports rivalry in the US.

In 1950 – The Detroit Red Wings win the Stanley Cup defeating the New York Rangers 4-3 in two overtimes, winning the series four games to three. It was the fourth of eleven Stanley Cup titles for the Red Wings and the fourth of seven runner-up finishes for the Rangers and the Cup-winning goal was scored by Pete Babando at the 8:31 mark. Due to a circus being held at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers only hosted two games, games two and three in Toronto.

In 1966 – The Righteous Brothers are at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the third and final consecutive week with (You’re My) Soul and Inspiration. It was the fifth of eleven Top 40 hits for the duo, their fifth of six Top 10 hits, and was their second and final #1 song in a chart career that lasted from 1963-90. The song also peaked at #15 in Great Britain and was Billboard’s 12th-biggest song of the year.  A version by Donny and Marie Osmond peaked at #38 in 1978.
