The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow reinvests in the lottery. Today’s Diary.

While processing the transaction, he happened to’ve glanced at the numbers and we could swear we saw him nod approvingly, as if he knew, too…As he should have, because ol’ Sparrow’s lucky numbers are the hottest numbers in play right now…

Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1945 – The Battle of Iwo Jima, between US Marine and Navy forces and the Imperial Japanese Army, begins on an island about 750 miles south of Tokyo. The battle ended on March 26 with an American victory due, among other things, to American air superiority and the impossibility of Japanese retreat or reinforcement.  The famous photograph of six Marines raising the American flag on top of Mount Suribachie was taken on February 23

In 1978 – Bobby Allison wins the Daytona 500, defeating Cale Yarborough by 33.2 seconds, his first of three Daytona 500 wins. Allison started from the 33rd position, the lowest starting position for a winner, until 2007 when Kevin Harvick won from the 34th spot. Allison retired in 1988 after an accident saw doctors declare him dead, though he eventually fully recovered. His 84 career victories are good for fourth on the all-time list.

In 1977 – Manfred Mann’s Earth Band is at 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the only week with Blinded by the Light. It was the first of three Top 40 hits for the Earth Band and remains their only Top 10 hit. The song also went to #1 in Canada, peaked at #6 in Great Britain, and was Billboard’s 36th-biggest song of the year. The song was from the album The Roaring Silence and was written by Bruce Springsteen.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

Most men are harassed and buffeted by life and crave supernatural assistance when natural forces fail them; they gratefully accept faiths that give dignity and hope to their existence and order and meaning to the world.
