We were also wondering where a sign announcing we were crossing the 45th parallel was, but some later checking showed we are still a couple of degrees south of the halfway point between the Equator and the North Pole…

Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 2014 – The Kepler Space Telescope – in orbit around Earth – discovers the first Earth-size planet located in what us humans consider a habitable zone around its star. The planet is about 580 light years from Earth and 40 million miles from its star and a year takes about 130 days. Current, as well as next-generation, telescope technology does not allow for checking for the existence of an atmosphere.

In 2021 – Patrick Marleau of the San Jose Sharks tied the NHL record for most career games played in a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild. It was the 1,767th game for Marleau, tying the record established by Gordie Howe from 1946-80. Marleau retired after the season with 1,779 games played, and the record still stands.

In 1954 – Wanted by Perry Como is at #1 on Billboard’s Best Sellers in Stores chart – a predecessor to the Hot 100 – for the second of eight consecutive weeks. It was the 37th of 50 Top 10 hits for Como on assorted Billboard pop charts of the era and his eighth of eleven #1s in a chart career that lasted from 1944 to 2021. The song also went to #1 on Billboard’s Most Played by Jockeys and Most Played in Jukeboxes charts.
