SPARROW FOR CONGRESS…VOTE EARLY, VOTE OFTEN: A couple of years ago one media outlet referred to us a “perennial candidate” which, while not completely false, gives our campaign a Ralph Nader-ish feel we disapprove of. But you can’t argue with the fact we are regularly on the ballot for Congress and, once, for the US Senate.

Stop Us If You’ve Heard This Before: As usual, we are the Peace Candidate, and though the entire field isn’t set yet, it is reasonable to believe we will be the only candidate able to claim that distinction this November.

Dry, Technical Matter: We’re the Peace Candidate because we oppose all wars of aggression and all wars that have not been declared by Congress. Our current war with Iran is a good example of both.

More Dry, Technical Matter: It is a war of aggression because Iran was never a direct threat to American sovereignty. It posed no strategic threat to us or our way of life, and we attacked it for no good reason. We even bombed a schoolhouse and killed 160 schoolgirls. This is a war crime our president must answer for, but don’t bet on that happening. Our country and our planet have been appeasing Donald Trump since day one; he gets a free pass on everything.

Oh Yeah: Of course, this war was not declared by Congress, which gives it something in common with every other war we’ve fought since World War II, every one of which was illegal and probably immoral.

The Bottom Line: No nation has survived perpetual warfare, and America will not be the exception to that; eventually, perpetual war will mean the end of our country. We deserve better than this. We deserve an America at peace and a government that abides by the Constitution. But you and me – we the people – are not going to get better government until we demand it on Election Day.

The Diary of a Nobody – Sparrow troubleshoots a beeping lock. Today’s Diary.

…I showed Darby our patented troubleshooting technique: staring at it crossly with our hands on our hips…When that didn’t help, either, Darby suggested we scowl at it, and after that, the pressure was too much, the lock yielded and stopped beeping.

Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1895 – The first solo circumnavigation of the Earth begins when mariner Joshua Slocum leaves Boston aboard his sloop Spray. Slocum initially sailed to Gibraltar before turning around and heading toward South America in order to avoid Mediterranean pirates. Slocum rarely touched the helm and navigated mainly using dead reckoning and noon sun sightings. He completed his voyage in his native Nova Scotia in June 1898, having logged 44,000 nautical miles.

In 1967 – The Philadelphia 76ers win the NBA title, defeating the San Francisco Warriors 125-122 at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California, to win the series in six games. It was the second of three NBA titles for the 76ers and was the second of four runner-up finishes for the Warriors, to go along with seven titles. The teams set an NBA playoff record with 84 first-quarter points, a mark that has been tied twice since and still stands.

In 2004 – Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker are at #1 on Billboard’s country chart – then known as the Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart – for the fourth of five consecutive weeks with When the Sun Goes Down. The song also went #1 country in Canada, peaked at #26 on the Hot 100, and was Billboard’s 4th-biggest country song of the year. It was the seventh of 32 #1 country hits for Chesney and remains Uncle Kracker’s only #1 country hit.
