WHAT THE HELL’S GOING ON HERE?: Christa Pike, the condemned killer who survived Tennessee’s two attempts to execute her, woke up this week. Her attorney said her first question – logically enough, under the circumstances – was “Where am I?”
Dry, Technical Matter: She has gone from being on a ventilator, to waking up and wondering what the hell was going on, to walking and eating on her own.
Fly In The Ointment: Unknown is her long-term prognosis or whether Tennessee will try to kill her again. Her attorney wants her sentence commuted, but we maintain she has served her sentence.
Consider This: Tennessee twice injected her with state-approved dosages of state-approved drugs, and Ms. Pike survived. It’s hardly her fault Tennessee screwed it up, and Ms Pike should be released as soon as she is healthy enough to live on her own.
The Bottom Line: We’re not pro-murder here, though we are anti-death penalty because we have executed innocent people. And the condemned have few rights, but one of them is being dead when they are wheeled out of the death chamber and not ambulanced out to the hospital. If we are no longer able to do this, it is another reason for the death penalty to be abolished.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.
Older voters who had lived through the Depression and two world wars fretted that America had somehow lost its grit and will to sacrifice.
