Extra, extra, read all about it.

In 1551 – The National University of Lima is established by Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Though not the first university in the New World – the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic was established in 1538 – it remains the oldest continuously operating university in the Americas. It is now known as the National University of San Marcos.

In 1973 – The Indiana Pacers win the ABA title, defeating the Kentucky Colonels 88-81 in Game 7 at Freedom Hall in Louisville. It was the second consecutive and third ABA title overall for the Pacers, and was the second runner-up finish for the Colonels, to go along with one title. Freedom Hall and Madison Square Garden in New York City remain the only two arenas to host decisive NBA/ABA Finals games and NCAA national championship games.

In 1979 – Peaches and Herb are at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the second of four consecutive weeks with Reunited. The song also went to #1 in Canada and Spain, peaked at #4 in Great Britain, was in its third of four consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart, and was Billboard’s 5th-biggest song of the year. It was the seventh of eight Top 40 hits for the duo, their third and final Top 10 song, and remains their only #1.
