The Diary of a NobodySparrow has the latest on the scratch paper front at the hotel, and it’s time for the quarterly Active Shooter training module at the retailer. Today’s Diary.

This module wasn’t as funny as the one where all the men are fleeing out a back door ahead of all the women, but I did laff when the host advised us to contact a manager is we see or hear anything suspicious, which was immediately followed by a cutaway to a hand shoving a clip into a pistol and then chambering a round.

In 1993 – A truck bomb explodes beneath the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Six people and an unborn child are killed and over a thousand are injured. A total of six people would be convicted in the attack, including Ramzi Youseff, the mastermind, and Eyad Ismoil, who drove the van that exploded. Both are serving life sentences. The terrorist’s plan was to have the North Tower collapse into the South Tower before terrorists would just say “screw it” and fly airplanes into the World Trade Center.

In 1995 – Dana Barros of the Philadelphia 76ers hits one three-point shot establishing a new NBA single-season record with 44 consecutive games making a three-pointer. Philadelphia lost the game 84-75 to Indiana. Barros would extend the mark to 58 games by the end of the season and the streak would end at 89 games on January 12, 1996. Barros broke the record held by Michael Adams and the record is now held by Stephen Curry with 157.

In 1972 – Al Green is at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Best Selling Soul Singles chart – for the eighth of nine weeks with Let’s Stay Together. Previously, the song had spent a week at #1 on the Hot 100 and the song was the first of six #1s for Green on the soul chart and remains his only #1 song on the Hot 100. Let’s Stay Together was Billboard’s #1 soul song of the year and their 11th biggest pop song.
