The Diary of a Nobody: Sparrow is introduced to the word “breesh”.

Breesh, further query revealed, is slang for money and a few minutes later breesh made another appearance…

The Regular Guys/Chapter 5: Lenny and Larry meet Morty, who will eventually become their agent.

First, however, he was obliged to sit through two misfits who called themselves The Regular Guys, whoever the hell they were; Morty had never heard of them.

As soon as they took the stage, however, Morty found they had his complete and undivided attention. One guy, sorta chubby wearing a navy blue suit with black hair that was both slightly thinning and a little curly on top immediately jumped off the stage, pulled out a roll of money from his pocket and started dispensing dollar bills to those in the first row. When he got to one man he started to proffer a bill, thought better of it, then reached into his pocket for some spare change. The other misfit, a tall, lean man with all of his brown hair was filming the audience on his phone.

The long march to today.

In 1979 – Eleven people are killed at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati before a concert by the British rock band the Who. The deaths came about 7:15 pm when a crowd outside the arena surged to enter through the only two doors that were open, anxious to get in because seating was general admission and not assigned and the eleven deaths were due to asphyxiation from being crushed. The band was not immediately notified of the tragedy and the show went on as scheduled.

In 1929 – The Boston Bruins begin the longest winning streak in NHL history in a 3-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. It was the first of 14 consecutive wins for the Bruins, and research into whose record they broke was inconclusive. The record was broken by the New York Islanders, who won 15 in a row in the 1981-82 season and is now held by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who won 17 straight in the 1992-93 season. Despite this success, the Bruins would lose to the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Finals, being swept in two games.

In 1977 – Serpentine Fire by Earth, Wind & Fire is at #1 on Billboard’s soul chart – then known as the Hot Soul Singles chart – for the third of seven consecutive weeks. It was the   15th of 38 Top 40 soul hits for the group, their eighth of 20 Top 10 soul hits and their fourth of seven #1 soul songs. The song also peaked at #13 on the Hot 100 and in 2016 a version by Nathan East and some members of Earth, Wind & Fire peaked at #17 on Billboard’s Smooth Jazz Songs chart.

The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

Nothing is more powerful than an individual acting out of his conscience, thus helping to bring the collective conscience to life.
