The Diary of a Nobody – Tue 6/12/18

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Tuesday, June 12
Had a very leisurely morning after getting home from Hotel B…I was very tired but screw it, I was in the mood for leisure, so I took it.

First I fed the cat her canned yummy ration…We are down to the bottom of the box and most of them are the green tinted cans she shows open hostility towards, but I scrounged around and managed to find a light blue tinted can, which she doesn’t turn her nose up at…Then I fed the birds…And the squirrels, because they are all living in harmony at the free food shack…Then I watered the back garden, the one by the shed, where the artichokes and corn grew last year, and where a rhubarb and a really nice iris have settled in…I sent a pic of the rhubarb to The Wife and she immediately called and then I went to the garden across from the kitchen window and watered the apple tree.

I don’t know what’s going here, but we’ve had this apple tree at least since we bought The Shire four years ago and it is still rather small, maybe a couple of feet high…I don’t think the apple tree is dead, tho, it is still green and appears to be growing but at this rate, The Wife and I will be dead before it produces any apples…Or maybe it’s not an apple tree…Maybe it’s a bush or something…I sure the hell can’t tell.

The Wife provided phone support for some field maintenance she had me do on the rhubarb…She had noticed the long, tall doohickie shooting up from the center of the plant and noted that is what the rhubarb uses for reproduction and we didn’t want that happening because a lot of the sugar, or something like that, goes to the seeds and not to the plant, where we want it…She advised it was a simple matter to reach down and pull it out but it wasn’t, I actually had to go and get the clippers and whack it off.

After the gardens were watered I hand-watered parts of the lawn, focusing on the brown patches…I think changing the setting on the lawn mower last week is already paying dividends because I like to think parts are getting greener, but it will take time to know for sure…Recall I had been mowing it on the shortest setting, and I don’t think that was particularly good for the lawn…The plan is to mow it in the next couple of days and then let it grow for a couple of weeks because I will at the Legion State Convention in a couple of weekends.

I put the trash out to the curb, too…I was wheeling it out and I thought “gee, this seems rather light” and I open it up and there’s no trash in there, except for a couple of shopping bags with donations from the cat’s litter box…Crap, this is not getting my money’s worth, so I went in the house and emptied the small trash can in the bathroom – which was overflowing – and then I got the kitchen trash, which was only about three-quarters full, and took them out and for good measure went back in and cleaned the cat box again and took that out.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1130 Tuesday until 1730 Tuesday…Six hours, and a pretty fitful six hours at that…Rather disappointing, frankly as there was no alarm clock, except for the 2130 one I set just in case…But I am still a tad under the weather and sleep aids are taking a pass on working their usual magic…God bless all of you.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th century British novel of the same name.
