The Diary of a Nobody – Wed 6/13/18

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Wednesday, June 13
Today was Day 1 of what ol’ Sparrow is currently passing off as a three-dayer…I got off work at Hotel B at 0700 and I do not clock in anywhere until 1800 Friday at the retailer…It’s actually only one calendar day off, of course, but it is 59 hours between shifts and you must take these things when you can get them.

If you put it to work for you, tho, it ain’t too bad…I usually sleep days, of course, but there is no point wasting a day off merely sleeping…So when I got home I got right down to business doing nothing…I fed the cat…I fed the birds and did the watering…Then I got some laundry going…Already time was flying by and it seemed like 1800 Friday would be here in the next couple of hours…I don’t know why that is, it’s a full two-and-a-half days away for Pete’s sake but for some reason, I felt compelled to cram as much leisure as possible into every second.

So I farted around with some ideas for tomorrow’s Sparrow For Congress video and while I was doing this I got a text from GM Adam wondering what the deal was with the new password for our front desk email account I had been obliged to set up…I didn’t relate this episode here because I thought it was probably too dull, even for this crap, tho in retrospect that was probably folly on my part.

The front desk has its own email account at the owner’s domain…It is always logged in on the main terminal, but on the secondary one it isn’t…This wasn’t too big a deal until the scanning program on the main workstation went tits up, obliging us to use the backup workstation to scan and email our reports…I tried to log into the front desk email but I could not remember the password and the cheat sheet I had made was no longer where I had taped it to the wall…Since I had access to the main workstation, it was a simple matter to reset the password…To make sure no one was caught unawares, I posted the new password in no less than three places.

GM Adam insisted he was spelling everything correctly, including capitalization and special characters, so I tried to log in here at The Shire and had no problems and I texted a pic of my screen logged into the front desk’s email account just to rub it in and, hilariously, it turned out Adam was trying to log into the old server…They changed it a couple of weeks ago…Once he realized the error, he was home free.

I’m debating whether to mow the lawn this weekend…I really want to give it a week off, but I’ll be at the Legion state convention next weekend and I don’t want to go three weeks without mowing, but I’m not leaving until Thursday and I suppose I could do it Wednesday…But what if that doesn’t work out???…I think I will end up doing it Friday, and doing some spraying, too.

Dr Sparrow did some self-diagnosis today, too…I have not been feeling perfect the past couple-three days and one of the things that has been bothering me is my right eye…It has spent no small amount of time hurting…Not the left eye…Not both eyes…Only the right….First, I ignored it in the hopes it would go away, always Pa Sparrow’s initial diagnosis…Some kids got prompt medical attention for their ailments but not the Sparrow boys…You could be coughing up organs and Pa would be there patting your shoulder saying it’ll be OK in a couple of days…It hasn’t gone away tho, but it’s not always a problem, usually only at home…It hasn’t bothered me at the retailer or at the hotel, which leads me to believe it might be an allergy, but I’ve never had allergies before, but I suppose you can always get some…Maybe I should have looked that up, too.

After some immediate checking to make sure it wasn’t eye cancer, further research showed it wasn’t migraines, either, which was a relief and it was likely some sinus problems…So I scooted over to the next county for some medicine…I could have bought it here, but I needed some other things, like canned yummies for the cat and some weed killer because weeds are out of hand on the lawn…By habit, the car pulled into the Mexican joint for lunch….I took the sinus medicine there, as a pre-quesadilla appetizer, and within a half hour of returning back to The Shire I was feeling pretty good.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: Par for the Wednesday course, there was no sleep to report today.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th century British novel of the same name.
