The Diary of a Nobody/January 28

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Thursday, January 28
There was a bit more strength in the gym this morning, as yours truly moved the 190 lb bench press nine times on the final set, one more than the previous two sessions, which is right on schedule, exactly what we are looking for.

I think, tho, I am going to return to the z-bar curl for the biceps, instead of the straight bar…I’m moving good weight, and while I’m hardly Mr Biceps, I think the muscles get more isolation with the z-bar, but perhaps more of the bicep gets worked…I will say this, I think I’m getting better form with the z-bar and the biceps are looking pretty good, but we’ll see.

I came home to find the bathroom toilet and bathtub overflowed again…Bad timing, too, because at that moment in human history I sort of needed to use the can, but it was something that’s happened before and everything worked out…Regular readers of this crap may – or they not – recall that a couple of months ago there were some troubles and I thought I’d squared them away and was reading in the chair when there a gurgling sound and the whole system sort of belched and overflowed…I strongly suspect this is what happened here because, of course, I was gone…Unless the cat clogged it up, which I doubt, tho she declined comment on the matter.

I gave the toilet an immediate test flush – because I really needed to take a crap and didn’t want to drive to the convenience store – and it sort of worked and I tested the shower drain and that was working OK and some more flushes got the toilet back with the program…The bath mats had to be washed of course, and the drain didn’t overflow sparkling water so both the floor and the tub and to get a Level III cleaning because not even yours truly is that unsanitary.

While enjoying the post-workout soak, yours truly started thinking about vacation options for April…Recall the trans-Atlantic cruise was canceled and I got a refund for the hotel in and the flight to London…Well, actually, the hotel stay was refunded in full, and I got a credit for the flight.

Anyway, I still have the two weeks off scheduled for April, and I spent no small amount of time in the hot spring wondering what to do about them…Recall there was a week off over Thanksgiving spent visiting Uncle Rudy and Auntie Susie in Louisville, so another vacation isn’t really needed…On the other hand, it is not realistic to expect the cruise to go off this year, so I’ll have to use those two weeks anyway.

Something else to consider is I plan on going back to Louisville for Thanksgiving again, but that’s only for a week, leaving a week to blow.

So ol’ Sparrow started thinking road trip…But where???…Especially in the Virus Era when a lot of things, like Disneyland, are closed…I could head to the midwest where there are friends I haven’t seen for a long time or maybe me and some friends could meet in Vegas, where I used to live and still know people…And then perhaps head down to LA, where there’s family I love dearly and haven’t seen since Ma Sparrow’s funeral almost six years ago…Recall we all saw each other at the family Christmas Eve Zoom and boy, seeing them in person would be nice.

Who the hell knows at this point…Now that we’re thinking about it tho, a plan should form on its own soon enuff.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log: 1830 Wednesday until 0030 Thursday…6.0 hours for the night 25.5 hours for the week, a tragic figure that is the lowest of the month/year so far.

Yours truly did sleep well, tho…Very well, sleeping straight thru until waking up to use the can and, because I didn’t get back to sleep after using the can it can be said that officially I didn’t wake up to use the can at all, which is rather rare…I did get back in the sack, tho, and while a patented Sparrow Roll Over wasn’t executed, yours truly laid there at leisure for an hour or so, just to verify I was up for good.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
