The Diary of a Nobody/July 9

As GHSD Turns
After two weeks of working with travelers at the General Hospital Security Department (GHSD), we worked with Hunter tonite…Honestly, we put it at 50/50 whether he’d show up, because when scheduled for graveyard Hunter tends to text to ask about our busyness and consider whether to favor us with his presence.

Hunter worked Wednesday morning, and he will work Thursday morning, too, which means that’s 24 of 32 hours on the clock, which is not only a lot, it is out the arse insane, even if you’re young…Hunter said he got 3.5 hours or so, and he was a serviceable partner tonite, tho outside of routine stuff, there wasn’t much going on…He hogged the phone all nite, too, so we have some zero clue whether or not The Bread Lady showed up, which is one of our fave waypoints of the week.

No Class Today
We woke up this afternoon to a text from Tim advising there wouldn’t be a tai chi class today…Recently, he applied for work with the small town’s school district as a bus driver – he lives in the next county – which requires a CDL, which the district pays for, a $7,000 value, not too bad…(It does require, IIRC, a 2-year commitment)…Well, his test was today in the big city, so he said he would see me next week.

We put the time to good use with a solid weight session and two 10-minute deep-breathing sessions…We were feeling frisky, too, and upped the final weight for both shoulder side lateral raises and bicep curls by a barbell, just for funsies.

We also saw Eileen there…Eileen, and this official, Likes me…She is, more or less, my age and cute, and a while back she went out of her way to introduce herself to me…She is also married, with a nice-enuff husband who is always running around the gym like a banshee, but is never too far away from her.

Well, protocol here is clear: stay away…We do have some boundaries…Not a lot…I mean, Jackie was married tho, of course, we never went out, tho we agreed to…But I didn’t – and still don’t – know Mr Jackie, and Official Sparrow Protocol (OSP) dictates you don’t bother with a woman whose husband – or, as likely as not nowadays, father – you know…So no matter that we are both pleasant, low-key types, which she probably appreciates because her husband is very Type A…But none of it matters.

The big news – and it’s moderately big – is that Mystery Girl (MG) is pregnant…I am not making that up…We chat regularly now, but we haven’t mentioned it because the decades have taught us you do NOT bring this up unless you are absolutely, Grade-A, no-doubt-about-it certain…You must know for sure, because not knowing for sure could be embarrassing.

But it became official today…First, we saw her rubbing her belly, which women merely getting fat don’t do…Second, we overheard her talking with Lisa, her Official Gym Blab Partner (OGBP)…Everyone else in the gym overheard them, too, with MG prattling about her 20-week checkup and whatnot.

Meow, Meow, Meow
It’s official, Bandit has become finicky with her treats…She used to like all colors of his preferred brand, but this summer started turning her nose up at the blue label and now won’t eat it at all…So we got her some yellow label, which he’s also liked in the past, but now, while he eats it, he lets it be known he is doing so only under protest.

So a couple of days ago, we were at the retailer and they had some small packages of assorted colors, and we got some green label stuff…(We’re not entirely sure of the flavors.)…We give her some tonite before heading out to General Hospital (GH) and she eats it right up…So we got a big container of it, which makes three big containers of treaats now in the kitchen, which comes out to $45 or so of treats, two-thirds of which are out of favor.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log:
1000 Thursday to 1630 Thursday…6.5 hours for the day, and the weekly total will return.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
