Sparrow’s Night Off…Chronologically
Tuesday, 1730:
Start to wake up…We slept a bit longer than usual for Tuesday and Bandit certainly noticed, as the instant we stirred he started meowing for treats…He gets them three times a day, and when we wake up is one of those times, and he is not pleased that he had to wait an extra hour or so…However, like the cat before him, he knows the futility of trying to wake us up to be fed.
1735
Back in bed…Usually we take our pre-workout go juice, but it’s our nite off so we don’t have to be anywhere, so there is no reason to rush to the gym…Bandit comes in for some cuddles, and we get some reading in.
1930
We finally make it to the gym, and while we don’t have the whole place to ourselves, there’s nobody in our way, either…We start in with some warm-up forms and deep breathing before moving some weight.
1945
But then there is someone in our way, as some dufus kid has come in and is using the Smith machine, despite the fact we were going to start with squats…We come back strong with shoulder/bicep work, then we go back to Room 2 for more deep breathing.
2000
The kid is gone when we get back…He left the bench he was using there (which is OK by me because we do it, too), so we begin bench pressing, then we do squats…Squats are lite, in step with the new reality: resistance training and consistency over intensity…We finish with tricep work.
2120
Back at the house, we make a protein shake, and then it’s back to bed for more cuddles with Bandit…Eventually, we muster the energy to head to the desk for project work, tho that was iffy for a while…In fact, had we not gotten most of it done at the hotel, we probably would’ve waved it off, but there was no reason to waste that effort…Besides, some modest project work would lay a good foundation for our Nite Off Toddy (NOT) and reporting to the chair for reading duty with Bandit.
Wednesday, 0010
Usually Bandit immediately joins us for reading duty, but tonite he took his time, preferring some time at the open window…We have been reading our all-time fave book for the seventh or eighth time – or maybe the ninth, we’re not sure – but it’s a leisurely nite off so screw it, we picked up a book in a mystery series we’ve long enjoyed and dove in on that…The issue of which book to read tomorrow will be dealt with then…We had ourselves a scotch over ice, too, and eventually Bandit joined the festivities and stretched out on the ottoman…After an hour so we started dozing off but we didn’t want to rustle Bandit, so we waited until we absolutely had to use the can before getting up.

Again, I am the only student for Tim’s tai chi class…Too bad, because everyone would benefit from it…But it’s rooted in ancient China, and we Americans are pretty ethnocentric, and few are open to something like this…Their loss, and we are happy to have his complete and undivided attention…Tim has some new forms for us which, lacking some native fluidity, we do not pick at all…We also did a reading from the Tai Te Ching…We’ve read it before, and it is as useful for the mind as tai chi is for the body, and I hope it becomes a regular part of the class.
1900
There is still time before we have to head into the hospital, and we have some ideas, so we do a couple of Sparrow for Congress videos…We’re really happy with the AI videos we’ve been posting, but you have to put yourself out there from time to time…The first one talked about how perpetual war isn’t doing anybody any good, and the second one marked the debut of the Sparrow for Congress mobile, called the hotline in the video…We invited people to call us to talk about our country, noting the odd hours we keep and how they were just as liable to get us at 3am as they were at 3pm.
Sparrow’s Sleep Log:
0330 Wednesday until 0730 Wednesday
0930 Wednesday until 1400 Wednesday
8.5 hours for the day and 31.0 hours for the week…We have some zero clue what brought on the split session: we got up to use the can and couldn’t get back to sleep…Still tho, 8.5 hours is nothing to sneeze at.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.
The Diary of a Nobody was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
