The Diary of a Nobody/January 17

Meet Sparrow, an average man passing an average life…

Friday, January 17
Usually, when I lift on consecutive days I am more or less as strong on Day 2 as I was on Day 1 but this morning I got the exact same workout in that I got in Thursday…This was gratifying and I am crediting my trip to the Mexican joint in the next county yesterday because it is now plain to even the most casual observer that melted cheese and a burrito are keys to weightlifting success…Or maybe my new cell phone was key…I dunno.

Actually, I was a tad stronger than Thursday…I am not making that up…Recall I had trouble getting the tenth rep of the last set of tricep rope pullovers done but not today: number ten went smoothly and I’m glad the Friday workout is in the books…Official Sparrow Weightlifting Protocol (OSWP) calls for two workouts between Friday and Sunday and it’s nice knowing I can sleep in Saturday after the hotel without having to fuss over getting to the gym.

I went to the retailer before heading into the Veterans Service Office (VSO) this morning…I had an online order ready to be picked up, a padded collar you put on a barbell when doing squats because I’ve decided to start doing squats again…Regular readers of this crap may – or they may not – recall I did some bodyweight squats when I returned to the gym, but I lost interest in those because after a while you have to do an awful lot of them to see results…Barbell squats tho, with weights, fit right into the three-set, light weight, medium weight, heavy weight workout I utilize.

The only problem is the bar is really uncomfortable on the back of your neck…Now, Ryan the owner does have a plastic deal that clips on to the bar and also rests on the back of your neck, but this is more uncomfortable than the bar itself…I couldn’t find a padded collar in town and it was a simple matter to find one at the retailer’s website.

I’ve started adding a weekly feature called Benefit Spotlight to my county VSO webpage…It runs every Friday and today was the third installment, a chat about our VA home loan benefit…It really isn’t a loan in that the VA doesn’t lend the money, but they do guarantee a portion of it which virtually every lender is willing to accept in lieu of a down payment, a pretty nice benefit…Virtually everyone who has served since World War II and doesn’t have a dishonorable discharge is eligible and even some surviving spouses are too, and The Shire was purchased in no small part because of this benefit…The other two were on my role as a VSO and our VA medical benefit.

In the latest new ride news, I finally got around to putting on the license plates I got a couple of weeks ago…The temporary tag actually expired a couple of days ago, but I never got around to it…A shocker, I know…It didn’t really matter because you couldn’t read the temporary tag because there was crud all over it, but you can’t leave temporary tags on forever, so I went and fetched a screwdriver and got it done…I did NOT put the dealer’s license plate frame back on, tho…Altho I did get a good deal from them, they can pay me to advertise for them…Besides, there’s one of their stickers on the back window anyway that I can’t remove.

The big news is I got music from the new iPhone coming thru in the new ride…I am not making that up…I synced my phone with Bluetooth this morning and there they were, the 180-or-so songs that constitute my collection…I’m not listening to them tho, for some reason.

Sparrow’s Sleep Log:
1830 Thursday until 0130 Friday.
1800 Friday until 2130 Friday

10.5 hours for the day and while I don’t have the weekly figures handy, I do seem to recall we have slowed down a bit from the record-breaking pace we were on earlier in the week when I was racking up sack time left and right…We are still on track for a great weekly total, tho.

The Diary of a Nobody is a novel. All elements are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Anything else is a coincidence.

It was inspired by the 19th-century British novel of the same name.
