In 2000 – The 200 US presidential election ends when United States Supreme Court issues its ruling in Bush v. Gore, settling a recount dispute. The decision allowed the previous vote certification to stand, giving George W Bush Florida’s 25 electoral votes and a majority in the Electoral College. 

In 2010 – The inflatable roof at the Metrodome in Minneapolis collapses after a snowstorm, forcing the postponement of the Minnesota Vikings game against the New York Giants. The game is played the next day in Detroit with the Giants winning 21-3. 

In 1960 – Are You Lonesome Tonight by Elvis Presley is #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the third of six consecutive weeks. It was Elvis’ 15th #1 song on the pop chart and Are You Lonesome Tonight also went to #3 on Billboard’s R&B chart, #22 on its country chart. Merle Haggard hit #12 with it in 1977 on Billboard’s country chart.
