In 1860 – HMS Warrior is launched by the Royal Navy. Warrior’s launching immediately made all other warships obsolete as she had an iron hull protected by iron plates and a screw propeller. Warrior would be commissioned the following year, her sister ship HMS Black Prince would enter service in 1862 and the pair would remain the world’s foremost warships until 1871. Warrior was decommissioned in 1883 and is now a museum ship in Portsmouth. 

In 2007 – The New England Patriots become the first NFL team to go 16-0 in the regular season defeating the New York Giants 38-35. The Patriots were the eighth team to finish an NFL season undefeated and the first since the Miami Dolphins went 14-0 in 1972. The Patriots finished the season 18-1, losing to the Giants 17-14 to the Giants in the Super Bowl. 

In 1984 – Madonna is at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second of six consecutive weeks with Like A Virgin. The song also went to #1 on Billboard’s dance chart, peaked at #8 on the soul chart and also went to #1 in Japan, Canada and Australia. It was Billboard’s second-biggest hit of 1985 and ranked 121st on their 60th Anniversary Hot 100 last year. It was Madonna’s fourth Top 40 hit, her first of twelve #1 songs and remains her biggest hit.
