The Sunday Bottom 5
A ranking of some things.

1. Denny’s Our first visit in a couple of decades went OK, as hotcakes are still good, but Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters “pretty sure” you could have done better than those molecule-sized butter packets frozen at absolute zero.

2. COVID Relief Bill Some good, some bad as $1,400 payments about half. or even a third, of what a lot of Americans could use right now…Sunday Bottom 5 pollsters remain “pretty sure” had American citizens, government, produced a united response a year ago, little of this would be necessary.

3. Lauren DaigleThe record for most weeks at #1 on any Billboard chart is extended, as single You Say at top of Hot Christian Singles chart for 120th non-consecutive week….Vienna Boys Choir, looking to cash in with hot Christian singles of their own, looking at adapting Bee Gees Stayin’ Alive in time for Easter resurrection celebrations.

4. Major League BaseballAnnounces game will continue to be f*cked with in minor leagues with, among other things, larger bases, requiring pitchers to step off rubber for pickoffs and a limit on the number of pickoffs…Good gravy, why don’t you guys just put up the circus tent???

5. President Joe Biden Fact CheckWhile nowhere near the level of the Trump Administration, Biden Administration still had some modest fact check successes of its own this week…Click here for the latest from the AP.

On This Date
The long march to today.

In 1757 – British Royal Navy Admiral John Byng is executed on board the HMS Monarch, following conviction for failing to relieve British troops at the Battle of Minorca, Byng having elected to take his fleet to Gibraltar for repair instead. After King George II refused clemency, Byng was taken to the quarterdeck of the Monarch, allowed to kneel on a pillow, and dropped his handkerchief when he was ready to die. Byng had served in the Royal Navy since 1718, when he was 14.

In 1963 – Guy Rodgers of the San Francisco Warriors ties the NBA record for most assists in a game in a 114-109 loss to the St Louis Hawks. Rodgers had 28 assists to tie the record established by Bob Cousy of the Boston Celtics in February 1959. The record was broken in February 1978 by Kevin Porter of the New Jersey Nets (29) and is now held by Scott Skiles of the Orlando Magic, who had 30 in December 1990.

In 1987 – Huey Lewis and the News is at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the only week with Jacob’s Ladder. It was the twelfth of 17 Top 40 hits for the group, their tenth of twelve Top 10 hits and their third and final #1 song. The song was co-written by Bruce Hornsby, but he didn’t like his band’s arrangement and gave the song to Lewis. The song did not reach the Top 10 in any other country and was Billboard’s 41st biggest song of the year.

Some Philosophy Crap
The wisdom of the ages. Whatever.

…there are many who confine themselves to criticism of the way others do what they themselves dare not even attempt…these are marks, not…of superiority but of weakness. They mark the men…who seek…to hide from others and from themselves their own weakness. The role is easy…
